William “Bill” H. Porter Sr. 76, a life-long resident of Winchester died on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. He passed peacefully after a period of declining heath.

William was born the son of the late Doris (Suleski) and Henry Porter on January 15, 1942 in Winchester. He was educated locally where he attended schools in Winchester.

Soon after school Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 23, 1965 where he served during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal and was honorably discharged at the rank of Spc. – E-4 on February 23, 1970.

On April 14, 1967 he exchanged vows with Barbara A. Tacy. They were married in a simple service with close family and friends in attendance in Northampton, Massachusetts. The Porters have been married for fifty-one years.

Bill was employed by Paper Services in Ashuelot as the head foreman for thirty-two years before retiring in 2002. Prior, he had worked at A.C. Lawrence Co. in Winchester as a machine operator for six years.

Bill enjoyed his hunting and fishing. He had a civic side to him as a member of the VFW Post #3968 in Winchester.

Mr. Porter is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Porter of Winchester. His children; Lisa M. Champney and her husband Gary of Jacksonville, FL. Tammy L. Castor of Stoddard and William H. Porter Jr. of Winchester. He also leaves his siblings; Catherine Mecheski and Richard of Swanzey. Raymond Porter and his wife Nanette of Brattleboro and Clifford Porter and his wife Peggy of Swanzey. His five grandchildren; Nichole Owens, Nicholas Boroski, Kaysie Castor, Kelsey Castor and Christian Porter. Four great grandchildren; Alexis Owens, Aiden Owens, Ashton Owens and Ivan Boroski. In addition, he is survived by: cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In keeping with Bill’s request there are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 10am. in the family lot with military honors at Evergreen Cemetery, Richmond Rd. Rt. 32 E. Winchester, NH. 03470.
