Robert SmithRobert I. Smith, 83, a resident of Keene, passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of his home on Thursday, March 28, 2024, with the love of family near.

He was born a son to the late Marion (Greene) and Sidney P, Smith on April 15, 1940, in Brattleboro, VT. Robert was educated locally and graduated from Hinsdale High School class of 1958. He continued his education at the University of New Hampshire earning his degree in Civil Engineering, class of 1962. He was a member of the ROTC and graduated with a commission as a 2nd lieutenant.

After college, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was assigned to the 410 Robert SmithTH Civil Engineering Squadron. He was the recipient of the Airforce Commendation Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Philippine Presidential Unit Situation. He was honorably discharged on May 31, 1974, at the rank of Captain.

On February 9, 1962, Robert exchanged vows with the love of his life, Rosemary Warwick. They had a simple service at the First Congregational Church in Brattleboro, VT. with family and friends celebrating them.

Robert enjoyed his time working for the New Hampshire Ball Bearing company in Peterborough as a plant engineer for 19 years until he retired in 2006. Prior, Robert worked for Ingersoll Rand of Phillipsburg, NJ as a facilities manager for 15 years.

Along with working, Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing, snowmobiling, scuba diving, and had a love for animals, especially cats. He loved to travel, and watch the New England sports teams. Robert was a part of many organizations such as the Masons Club, the Jerusalem Lodge #104 of Keene for 60 years, the Mt. Pisgah Snowmobile Club of Hinsdale, and the Hinsdale Historical Society.

Robert SmithMr. Smith is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary W. Smith of Keene, their two children, Glenn S. Smith and his wife, Dorothy of Quakertown, PA. and Susan M. Smith of Quakertown, PA.; his three grandchildren, Jeremy R. Smith of Coopersburg, PA., Theodore R. Smith of Quakertown, PA., and Benjamin G. Smith of Quakertown, PA. Robert is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Robert was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Donna Smith.
