David Lee Newton of Keene, NH died as peacefully as he lived at the age of 80 due to a long illness on February 2, 2014, surrounded by family members who loved him dearly.

David was born the only child to Lee and Phoebe Newton on September 14, 1933 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1956. His engineering career brought him to New Hampshire in 1989.

David enjoyed many long summer days on Lake Winnipesaukee on his antique boat, named Nepenthe.” He enjoyed the many natural beauties of New Hampshire including Mt. Monadnock, biking and gardening. Indoors, he enjoyed wood working, reading journals and listening to classical music. David enjoyed playing English Hand Bells for over thirty years. He has been part of the St. James Hand Bell Choir for the past 16 years.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Nancy Newton; his two sons Douglas Newton and his wife Melissa of Wisconsin and Peter Newton and his wife Amy of Wisconsin; four step-children: Leneille and her husband Justin, Lucinda and her husband Jerimiah, Molly and her husband Clark, Kenneth and his wife Francis; eight grandchildren: Madison, Daniel, Jaxon, Jillian, Graysen, Estella, Stephen and Kenneth.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 4:30pm. in St. James Episcopal Church, 44 West St. Keene, NH. 03431. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made in honor of David L. Newton to: Westmoreland School Hand Held Bell Choir, 40 Glebe Rd. Westmoreland, NH. 03467.
