Robert Bob F. Patnode 68 a life long resident of West Swanzey died on Sunday, February 9, 2014. He passed peacefully in the comfort of his home with his family at hand after a period of declining health.
Bob was born the son of the late Velma (Eastman) and Victor Patnode on March 8, 1945 in Keene. He was educated in Keene and Swanzey.
On December 23, 1967 he exchanged vows with Dorothy Dot L. Jones in a simple service in West Swanzey. They have been married for forty six years.
Bob was a business man in the community. He owned and operated the Patnode Oil Company and Mr. Ps convenience Store in Swanzey since 1971. Bob ran the company for thirty four years before retiring in 2005. Prior to owning Patnode Oil he had worked at Homestead Woolen Mills in West Swanzey and Princess Shoe in Keene.
He was an avid softball player for many years. He enjoyed watching and going to stock car races. Bob was also a sponsor for local race teams and an owner. In his younger days he enjoyed candle pin bowling. He took the time to be a member of the community by participating in the West Swanzey Drum Corps and the West Swanzey Athletics Association.
Mr. Patnode is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dot L. Patnode of West Swanzey. He also leaves his children and their spouses; Scott Patnode and his wife Ellen of West Swanzey, Todd Patnode and his wife Lisa of Richmond and Tanya J. Patnode and her significant other Garry Lafond of Dublin. In addition he is survived by his brother Linwood Patnode and his wife Cheryl of West Swanzey, Four grandchildren; Nicholas Patnode, Keith Patnode, Brittany Patnode and Brianna Patnode in addition to cousins, nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 9 to 11am. with a celebration of life service to follow at 11am. Burial will take place privately in the family lot this spring. Flowers will gladly be accepted however, the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Robert F. Patnode to: American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA. 22312.
