William “Bill” D. Smith Jr. 57, a long time resident of Swanzey died on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. He passed unexpectedly after a period of declining health.

William was born the son of Helen M. (Phillips) and William D. Smith Sr. on September 6, 1957 in Keene. He was educated locally and attended schools in Swanzey.
Bill worked for F.M. Label Company in Swanzey for many years as a machine operator before retiring in 1999.

In his free time Bill enjoyed fishing, coin and stamp collecting. Time was spent watching baseball. He was an avid Red Sox fan. He liked to search for coins and other treasures with his metal detector. Bill was a long time lover of designing and making fly hooks for fishing. He was also a member of the West Swanzey Athletic Association. Mostly Bill enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mr. Smith is survived by his mother, Helen M. Bradley and her husband Scott of Mesa, AZ. His son, Christopher Cooper of Erie, PA. He also is survived by his siblings: Terry L. Tan of Marlborough and Mark Smith and his wife Rhonda of Swanzey. Grandchildren; Johnathan, Nicole and Jacob. Nieces and nephews; Scott, Jamie, Jason, Jennifer, Mark Jr. Kristy, Matthew and Michael Smith. In addition to cousins, extended family and friends. Bill is predeceased by his father William D. Smith Sr. who passed in 1974 and his long time companion Martha Fish passed earlier.

A gathering to celebrate Bill’s life is planned for Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 1 to 5pm. in the Swanzey Community House, 18 Old Richmond Rd. Swanzey, NH. 03446.
