Veer “Ravi” Akkoor, 62, of Swanzey and formerly of Kalamazoo, Michigan, died unexpectedly of heart attack on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the comfort of his home with his wife near him. He suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure, and related problems.

Ravi was born the son of the late Komalavalli (Sampath-Kumar) and V. Srinivasan Akkoor on October 22, 1953 in Madras, India. He was educated in India and came to America in 1975 for higher education and earned his Masters of Science in Operations Research and Statistics from Bowling Green State College in Ohio.

On May 5, 1983 he returned to India to marry Chitra Venkatesh in Bangalore with family and friends in attendance. They have been married for thirty-three years.

After working for American Greetings and the Upjohn Company, Ravi started his own company, Insight Informatics in Michigan in 1989, offering consulting services, doing statistical analysis, and designing software for pharmaceutical companies. Ravi took early retirement in 2012 due to health reasons.

Ravi loved music, sang devotional songs, and played the harmonium. In his youth he was an excellent racquetball player; after retirement he enjoyed reading, writing, playing music, taking online classes, and cooking. Ravi was known among friends and family as an outstanding cook. He was also active in his small community at the Forest View Estates as a board member in the Home Owners Association.

Mr. Akkoor is survived by his wife Dr. Chitra Akkoor of Swanzey (Associate Professor at Keene State College), his brother Mukund Akkoor and his wife Geetha of Chicago, IL, and his sister, Geetha Ranganathan of Bangalore, India. In addition he leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He is pre-deceased by his father, mother, and two siblings.

In keeping with Hindu traditions Ravi was cremated with traditional rites on Sunday, September 4 in the presence of family and close friends by a Hindu priest, Mr. Rajesh Hariharan of the Chinmaya Mission in Acton, MA. There were no calling hours. Ashes were dissolved in the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday, September 8, 2016.
