Robert “Bob” C. Tedford, 92, a long-time resident of Winchester and formerly of Swanzey died on Friday, June 1, 2018 in the comfort of his home with the love of his large family near after a brief period of declining health.

Robert was born the son of the late Jessie (Burlingham) and Arthur Tedford on December 22, 1925 in Keene. He was educated in Walpole where he attended local schools.

Bob was one of the greatest generation. On December 27, 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was trained as a Gunner’s Mate. He was stationed in San Diego and served on the U.S.S. Laurens APA-153 a troop transport ship and the U.S.S. George K. MacKenzie DD-836 a Gearing-class destroyer. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one star. Bob completed his time of service and was honorably discharged at the rank of Gunner’s Mate Third Class, Petty Officer Third Class. On May 8, 1946.

On May 10, 1947 he exchanged vows with Barbara Wilson. They were married in a simple service with close family and friends in attendance. The Tedford’s have been married for seventy-one years.

Bob was the owner and operator of Tedford’s Autobody in Swanzey for 40+ years. He retired in 2008 to enjoy time with his family and friends.

He enjoyed coin collecting and metal detecting.

Mr. Tedford is survived by his four children; Sindie Whitten of N. Fort Meyers, FL. Billie Jackson and her husband Gary of Winchester, Raymond Tedford and his wife Sylvia of Winchester and Joely Fanning and her husband Jack of Swanzey. His brother, Spencer Tedford of Nebraska. Bob is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Bob is predeceased by his siblings; Arthur Tedford, George Tedford, Adeline Bardwell, Jessie Bokum, Forrest Tedford, Florence Goodnow, Harold Tedford and Catherine Hazen.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 from 5 to 7pm. A celebration of life service will occur on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10am. all in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow with military honors in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Richmond Rd. Rt. 119 E. Winchester, NH. 03470. Flowers will gladly be accepted.
