Constance A. (Cantlin) Hamel, 77, a life-long resident of Keene, passed away at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene after a year-long illness. She passed peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2018.

Connie was born the daughter of the late Helen (Colburn) and Clayton Cantlin on March 22, 1941 in Keene. She was educated in Keene and graduated from Keene High School, class of 1959.

On July 16, 1960, Connie exchanged vows with Neil T. Hamel in Keene. They were married in a simple service with close family and friends in attendance. Sadly, Neil passed in September of 1992, after thirty-two years of marriage.

Connie worked as a self-employed professional dog and pet groomer. She worked until her retirement in 2010. She was recently the Director of the Chestnut Green Condo Assoc. and was a member of the Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue.

Mrs. Hamel is survived by her daughter, Tonia L. Filgerleski of Hopedale, MA, and a son, Troy T. Hamel of Deerfield, MA. She also leaves behind her sister, Maureen Romano and husband Nick of Swanzey, NH, as well as her sister in law Debbie Cantlin of Surry, NH. Grandchildren include Cameron Sweet of Worcester, MA and Bailey Sweet of Worcester, MA. Leeanne Coutts and husband William of Marlborough, NH and Lucas Hamel of Deerfield, MA. In addition, she leaves two great grandsons, two nieces, and extended family and friends. Connie is pre-deceased by her siblings; Claudia Cantlin and Craig Cantlin. Connie also leaves behind her devoted golden retriever, Tully, whom she adored.

In keeping with Connie’s wishes there are no calling hours. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 11am, in the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. Burial will follow in the family lot at Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Ave. Keene, NH. 03431.
