Helen M. (Smith) Wetherby 62 of Winchester passed peacefully on March 15, 2011 at the Lahey Clinic and Medical Center in Burlington, MA after a period of failing health.
She was born the daughter of Alice (Cobb) Senecal and Kenneth Smith on August 7, 1948 in Spofford. She was educated locally and attended Thayer High School.
Helen had various jobs threw out her life. She worked for a time at the Gillette Manufacturing Plant in Amesbury, MA. Her devotion in life was to her kids. It was important for her to be available to them and be mom.
She was the common law wife of Frederick Wetherby Sr. for several years.
In addition to being a great mom she spent time working with the Women’s Auxiliary of Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Post 1034 in Brattleboro, VT. She was a long time member of the Mt. Pisgah Sportsman’s Club. Helen was very crafty and loved to bake for people. For fun she would go dancing. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to many.
Helen is survived by her six children; Dale M. Wetherby Sr. of Hinsdale, Kim M. Carl and her husband Jesse of Winchester, Rick M. Wetherby and his wife Dolly of Hinsdale, Richard A. Montgomery of Winchester and Helen J. Sprague of Swanzey. She also leaves her father, Kenneth Smith of Winchester. Her siblings; Barbara A. Sullivan and her husband Daniel of Hinsdale, Paula S. Miller and her husband Norman of Northfield, MA., Donald K. Smith and his wife Barbara of Guilford, VT. She also leaves her loving and devoted grandchildren; Jesse and Dalton Carl, Jerimah Montgomery, Mathew Scarbrough, Joshua and Heather Sprague, Christina and Dale Wetherby Jr. and three great grandchildren. Her two aunts; Mary Howe and Marty Zuverinno both of Hinsdale. She is pre-deceased by her brother Frederick E. Wetherby Jr. who passed in Sept. of 1989 and her mother, Alice (Cobb) Senecal who passed in 2000. There are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who will miss her presence.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2011 from 2 to 4pm. A service will follow at 4pm. All in the funeral home. Burial will be held in the spring. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Helen M. Wetherby to the Mt. Pisgah Sportsman’s Club, P.O. Box 217, Winchester, NH. 03470.
