Robert W. Herbert, Sr. died on March 22, 2011, age 90. He was born in Manchester, N.H. on July 11, 1920, son of Ralph Payne Herbert and Sadie Benner Herbert. He was the husband of Gina Bruschi Herbert for 65 years whom he met and married while stationed in Rome, Italy during WW II.

Mr. Herbert was a well known realtor in Manchester running the Ralph P. Herbert Agency which he joined in 1949 and continued until his retirement in 1989. He also served as an appraiser and was a licensed Insurance Agent. He served as Secretary and President of the Greater Manchester Board of Realtors and had been Vice President of the Ash Street School PTA and President of the Smyth Road School PTA. For many years Mr. Herbert was active with and served as an officer for St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. He loved gardening, especially his fruit trees, and the Boston Red Sox.

Mr. Herbert was the treasurer of his Manchester Central H.S. class of 1938 B and helped with their Seventieth (70) Reunion in 2008. He graduated from St. Anselm’s College in 1947 having interrupted his education to serve in the U.S. Army and was in the 1302nd Service Unit out of Fort Meade, MD. Due to the war Sergeant Herbert served for nearly five years with a brief stay in Oran, Algeria and a long stay in Rome where he met his greatest treasure, Gina.

He is survived by his wife, Gina, at The Arbors of Bedford, and their three children: Cynthia Herbert Adams, Ph.D. and her husband Roger of Mansfield, CT; Pamela Herbert Mills of Peterborough, NH; and Robert, Jr. and his fiance Carol Derosia of Bedford, NH. Robert, Jr. oversaw the care of his father at The Arbors of Bedford where he & Gina resided for the last four years. He also leaves three grandsons: Andrew Herbert Adams of Orange, CA; Tucker Herbert of Los Angeles, CA and Travis Herbert of Derry, NH. Additionally he loved his niece and many nephews including those living in Italy and Australia. He was predeceased by his brother Gordon B. Herbert of Athol, MA.

Rev. Gray of St. Paul’s Methodist Church will conduct a Memorial Service at The Arbors, 70 Hawthorne Dr., Bedford, NH 03110, at 11 AM on Thursday March 31 followed by burial at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH with Full Military Honors.
