George M. Tempesta

George M. Tempesta, 80, of Swanzey, NH. and formerly of Stoughton, MA. died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May, 4, 2016 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.. He passed peacefully with the love and compassion of his family by his side after a brief period of declining health.

George was born the son of the late Marie and Michael Tempesta on October 10, 1935 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was educated in South Boston, MA. and graduated from the South Boston High School class of 1952.

Soon after high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country in Korea during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.

On June 29, 1953 he exchanged vows with Margaret E. Hibbard at the Mission Church in Roxbury, MA. They were married with family and friends in attendance. The Tempestas have been married for sixty three years.

George was employed by the Stoughton Housing Authority. He served as a Maintenance Supervisor for fourteen years before retiring. Prior, he had worked for the Brick Layers and Masons Union in Boston.

He was a man who loved the Boston Red Sox. When time permitted he could be found taking trips to Foxwoods Casino. He had a fascination with mowing the lawn and sometimes the neighbors lawns as well. He could always be found like a fixture at his families restaurant, Jim Eddies in Keene. Mostly, George loved his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and eventually a great grandfather.

Mr. Tempesta is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Hibbard of Swanzey. His children; Peggy Golisano and her husband Armando of Ringe, NH. Lena Tempesta of Keene, NH. George C. Tempesta and his wife Stephanie of Scituate, MA. James Tempesta and his wife Tracey and Catherine Tempesta and her husband Eddie Solomon of Swanzey, NH. His sister, Lena Bradley of Easton, MA. Seven grandchildren; James and Jennifer Golisano, Alyssa Weeks, Deanna Bono, James Tempesta Jr. Catrina Tempesta and Angela MacDonald. Two great grandchildren; Keira and Roman Golisano in addition to cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends. George is pre-deceased by his siblings; John Tempesta, Philip Tempesta, Anna Terwilliger and Nancy Tempesta all passed earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, May, 9, 2016 from 4 to 8pm. in the funeral chapel. A Mass with Christian Burial Rights will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 10am. in St. Margaret Marys Church, 33 Arch St. Keene, NH. 03431. Burial will follow in the family lot with military honors at: Mountain View Cemetery, Monadnock Hwy, Rt. 32 South, Swanzey, NH. 03446. Flowers will gladly be accepted.
