Donald M. Bemis Jr. 82, a life-long resident of Keene died unexpectedly on Friday, April 21, 2017 in the comfort of his home that he built.
Donald was born the son of the late Bessie M. (Dodge) and Donald M. Bemis Sr. on July 27, 1934 in Keene. He was educated locally and attended Keene High School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army soon after high school. He completed his enlistment and was honorably discharged.
Don always worked as an auto mechanic. He was employed by Robinson Motors in Keene which specialized in SAAB where he retired in 2000. Prior Don worked as a self-employed autobody mechanic at Bemis Autobody in Keene. He owned the company for over twenty years.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, auto racing and demolition derbys. He could be found watching the Boston Celtics on television.
Mr. Bemis is survived by his siblings; Marilyn A. McKeage of Concord, David F. Bemis of Keene, John F. Bemis of Keene and Randall E. Bemis of Keene. In addition, he is survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Don is predeceased by his siblings; Eliner F. Bemis, Lawrence E. Bemis, James E. Bemis and George K. Bemis Sr. all passed earlier.
In keeping with Dons wishes burial will be private with military honors in the family lot in Fitzwilliam. Calling hours with a gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 12 noon until 2pm. in the funeral chapel.
