Send Condolences

Carrie F. (Fortin) Sheehan, 69, a long-time resident of Harrisville, died on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Cheshire Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene, NH. She passed peacefully with much of her family at her side.

Carrie was born the daughter of the late Dewey and Margaret (Randall) Fortin on January 19, 1948, in Oberlin, Kansas. She was educated in Anaheim, California where she attended Savanna High School.

On June 2, 1973, she exchanged vows with the love of her life, David H. Sheehan, at The Harrisville Community Church. They were married for 43 years, raising their family in Harrisville.

She worked at several area firms including Yankee Magazine and Wells Memorial School and greatly enjoyed doing home daycare for 10 years. Prior to retirement, she was the kitchen manager/chef at The Keene Daycare Center, where the kids and staff fondly called her “Cookin’ Carrie”.
One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren. Many of her happiest times were attending their dance shows, concerts, and cheering for them at their many sporting events. “Nonna” was their number one fan. Many good times were also had sitting around the campfire on warm summer nights with her family making smores. She also greatly enjoyed and excelled at cooking, baking and many crafts. On sunny summer days Carrie could be found riding “shotgun” in the family Mustang convertible.

Carrie is survived by her husband, David H. Sheehan of Harrisville, her children: Kimberlie M. Buckley and her husband Timothy of Cherryville, NC; Kristin S. Amer and her husband Michael of Swanzey; Albert F. Sheehan and his wife Shelley of Concord; Adrienne F. Simpson and her husband Tony of Marlborough; Trinity H. Underwood and her partner Scott McIntire of Keene; Toby H. Sheehan. She is also survived by her siblings: Marvin Fortin and his wife Lauralee of Mannford, OK; and Gladys Brewer, Galen Fortin and Myron Fortin all of Norco, CA. In addition, she leaves 24 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

When Carrie retired she found she was made for it. Her lifelong classiness easily transferred to comfortable, casual wear and flip flops.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 12 noon in the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel. In honor of Carrie, we invite friends and family to dress comfortably and respectfully and to wear a hint of purple, which was her favorite color. In keeping with Carries wishes, there are no calling hours. Burial will take place at Willard Hill Cemetery in Harrisville in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Carrie F. Sheehan to: Norris Cotton Cancer Center, 580 Court Street, Keene, NH 03431. All services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel and Crematories, 44 Maple Avenue, Keene, NH 03431. WWW.cheshirefamilyfh.com.
