Alvin R. Raitto, 78, life long resident of Troy, died on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. He passed peacefully surrounded by close family at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester following a period of declining health.

Alvin was born on June 4, 1936 the son of Milja (Annala) and Donald Raitto in Troy where he grew up with his brother and five sisters. He attended Troy Schools, graduating from Troy High School class of 1955.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Alvin joined the military. He served in the United States Army from October 5, 1955 until May 31, 1962. Alvin served a portion of his enlistment in Korea and was honorably discharged at the rank of Specialist – E5.

He married the love of his life, Eva A. Hall (Brown) on July 20, 1963 at the Trinitarian Congregational Church of Troy. They have been happily married for the past fifty one years.

Alvin worked at Troy Mills in Troy. He worked in various positions until being promoted as a Laboratory Technician in the Research and Development. Alvin retired in 2002 after thirty eight years to enjoy his golden years with his family. Prior, he volunteered on local farms in Troy, and later worked as a painter and in construction.

He was a kind and loving husband, father and “Grampy”. He very much enjoyed taking trips in his motorhome, especially on yearly family vacations to Kissimmee, Zephyrhills and Disney World in Florida and numerous camping adventures around New England. Throughout the years, Alvin participated on bowling and softball teams, playing horseshoes, along with enjoying a wide range of other sports with his favorite football team being the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, taking scenic drives and just enjoying every moment of what life had to offer. He was well known for being a gentleman who always had a smile on his face and kind words to say.

Mr. Raitto is survived by his wife, Eva A. Raitto of Troy, His daughter, Kimberly Nalette and her husband Don of Jaffrey. Grandchildren; Holly Charlonne and her husband David of Jaffrey, Timothy LeMoine Jr. of Dublin and Anthony Deiana of Jaffrey. Four great-granddaughters; Morgann, Melora, Samantha and Isabella. His brother, Donald Raitto and his wife Nancy of Fitzwilliam. Sisters; Marie Kiblin and her husband Allen of Swanzey, Jane Heinkle and her husband Donald of Keene, and Cynthia Rose and her husband David of Swanzey, along with many cousins and nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Two beloved sisters, Ann Roberts and Ellen Pratt passed earlier. Mr. Raitto also held close to his heart who he considered to be a “son” in Lucien Duranleau of the United States Marine Corps. and his wife Katy of N.C. and their two daughters.
