Stephen E. Heyer, 66, of Troy and formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Hospice House of Concord. He passed peacefully while sleeping after a period of declining health.

Stephen was born the son of the late Billy Jo (Ellis) and Charles Heyer on July 3, 1951 in Denver, Colorado. He was educated in Albuquerque, NM. and graduated from Albuquerque High School, class of 1971.

Soon after high school on May 18, 1971 during the Vietnam War he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he worked as Medical Corpsman. Stephen went on with his medical training and became a Occupational Therapy Specialist. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Marksman Badge. On May 17, 1973 he was honorably discharged at the rank of PFC E-3.

When Stephen’s time in the military was complete he went on with his education and earned a Bachelors of Science in Engineering from a college in North Carolina.

He was the President and owner of Pisgah Telecommunications Inc., an engineering firm based in New York City. He ran the company for ten years until his recent retirement and left behind a well-trained group of talented Engineers from Hostos Community College in New York.

He enjoyed many things in life. His passion was golf. Time was spent fly fishing, working in his flower gardens and skiing, mountain climbing, rock climbing. He was a mentor for young people and assisted with home schooling projects for families with financial constraints. Stephen was a member of the Bretwood Golf Course in Keene for many years where he trained and play with his now successful golfer, his adopted son Israel (Izzy) Avilez.

Mr. Heyer is survived by his long-time friend and confidant, Debra Garrett of Fitzwilliam. His son, Jaques P. Heyer of Cootsville, PA. His siblings: Lynn H. Slade and his wife Susan of Albuquerque, NM. Sheron Chrisswell and her husband Bill of Albuquerque, NM. and Barton Slade and his wife Eva of Albuquerque, NM. He also leaves a special young man who he loved like a son, Israel “Izzy” Avilez of Fitzwilliam.

In keeping with Stephen’s wishes there are no calling hours. A graveside service in the family lot with military honors will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11am. in the Mountainview Cemetery, Main St. Rt. 12 North, Troy, NH. 03465.
