Lawrence “Larry” G. Goodale, 77, a life-long resident of Swanzey died on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. He passed peacefully with the love of his family near after a brief period of declining health.
Lawrence was born the son of the late Anna (Johnson) and Robert Goodale Sr. on November 10, 1939 in Swanzey. He was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1957. Larry was a patriotic individual. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. He completed his enlistment and was honorably discharged.
On December 14, 1968 he exchanged vows with Gail A. Boyd. They were married in a simple service in West Swanzey with close family and friends in attendance. The Goodale’s have been married for almost forty-nine years.
Larry worked for the State of New Hampshire. He was a Mechanical Foreman for the State Highway Department for thirty-two years before retiring in 1999.
Larry loved to work with his hands. Even when he was home he could be found out in the barn tinkering on something or fixing an engine. He was also a craftsman and enjoyed woodworking. Time was spent working on his house, lawn and doing various yard work. For fun he collected coins and listened to the local police and fire scanner. He also liked to drive his ’68 GMC pickup truck around town. Mostly, Larry was a family man. He loved barbeques and family events.
Mr. Goodale is survived by his wife Gail A. Goodale of West Swanzey. His children; Wendy L. Frazier of Winchester, Larry R. Frazier and his wife Nichole of West Swanzey and Keith A. Goodale of West Swanzey. His siblings; Robert Goodale Jr. and his wife Patricia of Swanzey Center and Alice Barrows and her husband Roland of Swanzey Center. Five grandchildren; Larry Frazier III and his wife Jenn, Eric Frazier, Ryan Frazier, Trevor Frazier and his wife Natasha and Jeff “Jay” Larish. Five great-grandchildren; Jayden Frazier, Kyle Frazier, Dylan Frazier, Zachary Frazier and Charlie Marie Larish. In addition he leaves cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 from 6 to 8pm. A celebration of life service will occur on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 10am. all in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Rt. 32 S. Old Homestead Highway, Swanzey, NH. 03446. Flowers will gladly be accepted.
