Kenneth “Ken” E. DeVoid Jr.
Kenneth “Ken” E. DeVoid Jr. 68 a life long resident of Keene died on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Langdon Place of Keene. He passed peacefully after a courageous battle with prostate cancer, with his mother at his side.
Ken was born the only child of Beverly (Bressett) and Kenneth E. Devoid Sr. on November 8, 1945 in Keene. He was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1963. Ken continued with his education and received his Bachelors Degree from Keene State, an M.Ed. from Harvard, an MACP from Antioch/New England Graduate School, and finally his Ed.D. from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.
Ken was the Special Education Administrator for the Towns for SAU 29 in Keene for twelve years before retiring in 2013.
Ken’s life revolved around education and mentoring kids, as well as those pursuing a career in Special Education. He also enjoyed gardening and cultivating his house plants. Ken had a soft spot for animals. He could be found watching birds and also feeding them by hand.
Dr. DeVoid is survived by his mother, Beverly DeVoid of Keene. He is also survived by cousins, extended family and numerous friends. Ken is predeceased by his father Kenneth E. DeVoid Sr. who passed in November of 1999.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 10 to 11am. in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in the family lot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Main St. Keene, NH. 03431. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Kenneth E. DeVoid Jr. to: the Monadnock Humane Society.
