Joyce Ann (Herk) Thompson 77 of Hinsdale died peacefully in the comfort of her home with the love and support of her large family at her side.She was born the daughter of Beatrice (Venette) and Henry Herk in Warwick , Mass. On March 20, 1933. She was educated in New Salem, Mass. and graduated from New Salem Academy class of 1951. She was married to Elliot Thompson on March 23, 1956 in Winchester at the United Church of
Winchester.She had worked at Kulick’s Market as a produce clerk and head of the bakery department for several years. She also worked at Mr. Mikes and Rite Aide before retirement.Joyce has been a resident of Hinsdale for 5 years and lived in Winchester for forty five years prior. She was a member of the United Church of Winchester.Mrs. Thompson had many hobbies and interests over the years. She was an avid knitter, cook and baker. When the Red Sox were on life came to a halt. She liked to go to the beach looking at light houses. She also liked to travel, especially to the Pennsylvania Dutch Country and taking family trips to Lake George, N.Y. Joyce’s life revolved around family and her Finnish heritage. She took great joy in having family meals and spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce enjoyed watching figure skating and was a big fan of the Royal Family.Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband Elliot Thompson, children; Wayne Thompson of Winchester, Linda Ebbighausen and her husband Gary of Hinsdale, Karen Thompson-Kellom and her husband Barry of Winchester and Brian Thompson of Winchester. She is also survived by her siblings; Elaine Brown and her husband Charlie of Warwick, Mass., Nan Hunt and her husband George of Orange, Mass., Richard Herk and his wife Mary Anne of Orange, Mass., Tim Herk and his wife Sandy of Athol, Mass. Nanny also leaves her grandchildren; Trevor Thompson, Beth D’Angelo, Jack Marsh III, Amanda Scaff, Ashley Thompson and Matt Thompson. She leaves her only Great grandchild Jack Marsh IV affectionately called Pork Chop by his Nanny. She is pre-deceased by her son James Thompson who passed in April of 1967 and brother William (Wink) Herk who passed in 1997.A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 2pm. In the funeral home. There are no calling hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers monitory donations should be made in memory of Joyce A. Thompson to Hospice and Home Care Services, 312 Marlboro St. Keene, NH. 03431.
