Jack D. Marsh Sr. 78, a long-time resident of Winchester died on Sunday, September 9, 2018 in the comfort of his home. He passed peacefully in familiar surroundings with the love of family near after a period of declining health.
Jack was born the son of the late Eva B. (Zuell) and John P. Marsh on June 18, 1940 in West Swanzey, NH. He was educated locally attending schools in Swanzey and Keene.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 29, 1959 Jack was honorably discharged on August 12, 1864 during the Vietnam War at the rank of Spec 4 / E-4 .
On May 28, 1977 he exchanged vows with Janet L. Will. They were married at the Veterans Hall with family and friends in attendance and have been married for forty-one years.
Jack worked at the Carl B. Thomas Construction and Blasting Company in Spofford. He started with company in 1974 and retired in 2005 after thirty-one years of employment.
He had many interests in life. Time was spent fishing the local ponds, streams and lakes. He especially loved ice and brook fishing. Time was also spent working in his flower and vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed an occasional game of horse shoes and going to the casinos. Jack was a man who liked cooking for family and friends and was always up for going to the beach or spending time in Maine. He was a man who believed in giving to his community. He gave freely of his time to work and participating in many programs with the American Legion Post in Apache Junction, AZ. and Winchester. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge 406 in AZ. The William Marconi Italian Club in Keene, Mt. Pisgah Sportsman Club where he would assist with Thanksgiving dinners and would also give time to assist the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion with community dinners.
Mr. Marsh is survived by his wife, Janet L. Marsh of Winchester. His children; Debbie Patnode and her husband, Gregg of Keene, Geneva Marsh of Homosassa, Fl. David Marsh of Homosassa, FL. Jack Marsh Jr. and his wife, Thea of Winchester, Kevin Marsh and his wife, Sandi of Beverly Hills, FL. Kelly Martin and her husband, William of Henniker, Scott Hagland and his wife, Jessica of Charlestown, and Jennifer Marsh of Keene. A sister, Sylvia Tetreault of FL. In addition, he is survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jack is pre-deceased by his daughter, Sandra Marsh who passed on April 8, 2017. His grandson Jarod Marsh along with his siblings; Joyce, Marion, Richard and Gloria all passed earlier.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 6 to 8pm. A celebration of life service will occur on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10am. all in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family lot with military honors at Evergreen Cemetery, Richmond Rd. Rt 32 W. Winchester, NH. 03470. Flowers will gladly be accepted.
