Gwendolyn D. (Davis) Brown, 99, of Keene and formerly of Swanzey and Marlborough, passed away peacefully and quietly while resting on Friday, March 3, 2023, in the comfort of her home with family by her side.
She was born the daughter to the late Sylvia (Smith) and Alvin Davis on August 27, 1923, in Athol, MA. She was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1941.
On October 14, 1945, Gwendolyn exchanged vows with the love of her life, Karl P. Brown. They were married in a simple ceremony in Keene. The Browns had been married for 52 years until Karl passed on May 14, 1998.
Gwendolyn worked as a secretary at Marlborough Federated Church in Marlborough for four years. She also ran her own business Gwen’s Typing and Mimeographing for 10 years in Marlborough.
Gwendolyn loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She also enjoyed embroidery, knitting, and playing cards.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her five children, Karl P. Brown of Winston-Salem, NC. Jacolyn B. Greene and her husband, Douglas B. Greene of Keene Candy G. Brown of Winston-Salem, NC. Herbert E. Brown and his wife, Joanne of Winchester and Carol Brown of Antrim. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Gwendolyn is preceded by her husband Karl P. Brown. Her siblings, Olive Witham, Arnold Davis, Sylvia Patenaude and one of her grandchildren.
