Eleanor E. (Hiiva) Hendrickson, 91, a lifelong resident of Marlborough died on Saturday, June 6, 2015 in the comfort of her home while sleeping.

Eleanor was born the daughter of the late Margaret (Walkama) and Jacob Hiiva on September 28, 1923 in Marlborough. She was educated locally and graduated from Marlborough High School class of 1942.
On January 27, 1944 she exchanged vows with Ralph A. Hendrickson while he was stationed in the military in New Jersey. They were married for twenty nine years before he passed in 1973.

Eleanor was a stay at home mom. She felt it important to be home providing for her family and their needs.

She enjoyed gardening, especially blueberries and flowers. She liked to go on walks, do crossword puzzles, read and go on shopping trips with her daughters. She had a great sense of humor and liked the Boston Celtics, especially Larry Bird. Family time was very important to her. She liked to cook and bake for family meals, especially her cream puffs. Family was her greatest joy especially when the grandchildren would come to visit. Time was spent reminiscing about days gone by educating the younger ones on how things were done in the past. This was also a time to teach a little of her native Finish language to the younger ones.

Mrs. Hendrickson is survived by her children and their spouses; Gary and his wife Karolee, Alan Hendrickson and Mark Hendrickson of Marlborough, Linda and her husband Edward(predeceased) of Hancock, Karen Longever and her husband Dana of Keene and Cindy Day of Keene. Eight grandchildren; Heath and Nathan Hendrickson, Shawn Coughlan, Heather Wallace, Sarah Clark, Heidi Wilson, Melanie Ferry and Nicole Belval. Seventeen great grandchildren; Kylan, Sienna, Wyatt, Alyssa, Emily, Drew, Remington, Ranger, Yanna, Raven, Aubrie, Griffen, Kiaja, Tyler, Cody, Hayden and Spencer. Three great-great grandchildren; Raleigh, Camden and Peyton in addition to cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Eleanor is predeceased by her son, Ralph “Andy” Hendrickson Jr. Her siblings, Walter and Philip Hiiva, Viola Boomhower, Betty Derby, Phyllis Follansbee, Lydia Georgina, Ella Hiiva, Ina Hiiva, and Marie Webster all passed earlier.

In keeping with Eleanor’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at 10am. in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery, Granite St. Marlborough, NH. 03455. Flowers will gladly be accepted.
