Dorothy H. (Pickering) Davis, 96, of Swanzey and formerly of Keene, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Keene Center Genesis.
She was born a daughter to the late Hattie E. (Porter) and Jesse D. Pickering on June 21, 1927 in Keene, NH. She was educated locally at Thayer High School class of 1945.
On November 27, 1944, Dorothy exchanged vows with the love of her life Walter P. Davis in a simple service in Keene surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Dorothy had worked at Cheshire County Savings Bank as a Teller and trainer for 10 years, retiring in 1988. She had also worked at Keene National Bank, Public Service of NH for 8 years in billing and bookkeeping.
Dorothy had many passions in life but her number one passion was spending time with her family. She also loved to play her piano, and sing music and did so within a few weeks of her passing. She was a Choir Director for the Junior Choir of West Swanzey, Children’s Methodist Choir as well as an adult’s choir group. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a member of the PTA. Dorothy enjoyed helping others and one way of that was by being a tutor to high school 2nd language and math students. She also belonged to the NH Extension Club and the Red Hat Ladies. When Dorothy wasn’t helping others you could find her reading or working in a flower garden.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her children, Gloria J. Chabot and her husband, Edmund of Keene, Glenn W. Davis, and his wife, Karen of Surry, and Gordon W. Davis, and his wife, Fatima Sol of Keene. Her grandchildren, Darren Chabot, Tara Kimball, Christopher Davis, Katie Howard, Alicia Bloor, and Nicholi Davis. As well as seven great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Walter P. Davis, her daughter Brenda J. Davis who passed on January 29, 1960 and her siblings, Willard A. Pickering, Julius Q. Pickering, Lucina Putnam, Horace W. Pickering, Nellie Blicker, Marion A. Wright, Jesse D. Pickering Jr., Nettie (Irene) Fisher, George E. Pickering and Edward O. Pickering.
There will be a calling hour held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 11:00 am with a service to follow at noon in the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel at 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. A burial will follow at Monadnock View Cemetery, 499 Park Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. Services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel and Crematories, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, Nh. 03431.
