Sterling, “George” E. Kenyon, 90, a long-time resident of Keene and formerly of Westmoreland died on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. He passed peacefully after a brief period of declining health.

Sterling was born the son of the late Bertha (Christianson) and Clyde Kenyon on March 6, 1928 in Westmoreland. He was educated locally and graduated from Walpole High School class of 1947.

He worked for a while before deciding to enlist in the U.S. Army. He served his time during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.

United States Army emblemOn June 18, 1954 he exchanged vows with Maria Jelinek in Toronto, Canada. They were married with family and friends in attendance. Sadly, Maria passed on June 6, 1996 after forty-two years of marriage.

George worked as a machinist at the Pneumo Ultra Precision Machine Co. in Keene for nine years before retiring in 1991. Prior, he had worked at Iva Ballou and Son Contracting as a carpenter for twenty-five years.

George was a quiet family man. He enjoyed tinkering around the house. Working on antique cars and n the 1950 and 60’s he would repair televisions. He also gave freely of his time and was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 797 in Keene.

Mr. Kenyon is survived by his Sons; Steven G. Kenyon of Sullivan and Garry L. Kenyon of Marlow. A sister, Arlene Midgley of Woodstock, VT. Four grandchildren; Stefanie R. Kenyon of Spofford, Garry Kenyon Jr. and his wife, Bethany of Cumberland, ME. Amanda Jo Britain and her husband, Glenn of Winchester and Steven Kenyon Jr. of Hilton Head S.C. In addition, he leaves cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. George is pre-deceased by his siblings; Lloyd Kenyon and June Gerrish.

In keeping with George’s wishes there are no calling hours. A graveside service with Christian burial rights will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 1:30pm. with military honors in the family lot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lower Main St. Keene, NH. 03431.
