John P. Whittle, 68, a life-long resident of Hinsdale died on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene after a long battle with cancer . He passed peacefully with the love of his family near.
John was born the son of the late Elizabeth (Howe) Whittle-Sprague and Harold Whittle on September 9, 1950 in Winchester. He was educated locally and graduated from Hinsdale High School class of 1970.
On August 5, 1972 he exchanged vows with Ann M. Dickinson at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Hinsdale. They were married with family and friends in attendance and have been married for forty-six years.
John was formerly employed as a shipping and receiving specialist for Continental Cable Co. in Hinsdale for ten years. He was also employed in similar roles at Ashuelot Paper Co. in Ashuelot and Brattleboro Kiln Dry in Brattleboro. John retired in 2010.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Mary Queen of Peace in Hinsdale. He enjoyed wood working, golf, camping at Pleasant Lake Estates and vacationing with his family. John was always the jokester, however he also provided life lessons to those close to him. He love all kids, and had many special bonds with the children from the neighborhood.
Mr. Whittle is survived by his wife, Ann M. Whittle of Hinsdale. His daughter, Heather M. Pelkey and her husband Bruce of Winchester. Two granddaughters, Ava E. Pelkey and Brenna M. Pelkey whom he cherished and watching them participate in all of their activities. His mother-in-law Betty Dickinson of Hinsdale. His siblings; Harold Whittle of Hinsdale, Norman Whittle and his wife, Mary of Hinsdale, Maryann Benoit of Lebanon, ME. David Whittle and his wife, Jan of Brattleboro, Vt. and Donna Sabin of Hinsdale, his sister-in-law Jeanne LaMontagne and her husband George of Winter Haven, FL. In addition, he leaves cousins, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. John is pre-deceased by his daughters; Allison Whittle who passed on January 15, 1975 and Tricia A, Whittle who passed on June 19, 2008, his brother George Whittle, his step-father Wilbur Sprague and his father-in-law Tink Dickinson.
In keeping with John’s wishes there are no calling hours. A mass with Christian burial rights to follow will occur on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10am. At St. Joseph’s, Mary Queen of Peace Church, 35 Brattleboro Rd. Hinsdale, NH. 03451. Burial will occur in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery, Depot St. Hinsdale. Flowers will gladly be accepted.
