Carlton Zit D. Sherrick

Carlton Zit D. Sherrick 82 of Marlborough and formerly of Keene died on Thursday, September 11, 2014 in the comfort of his home.

He was born the son of the late Beryl M. (Alexander) and Raymond L. Sherrick on January 25, 1932 in Gilsum. He graduated from Keene High School class of 1950.

On November 5, 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a mortar man during the Korean War. He served with the 40th. Infantry Division 224th. Heavy Mortar Company, Third Squad, Charlie Company. During the war he was a forward observer. He served in Chorwon and the Kumhwa Valley, Punchbowl. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal with one Oversees Bar, Korean Defense Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Carlton completed his enlistment on October 31, 1960 with an honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant First Class.

On April 12, 1958 he exchanged vows with Helen Westlund. They were married at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Keene with close family and friends in attendance. They were married for fifty one years before she passed on June 11, 2009.

Carlton continued his education after the service and attended Chicago Technical School in Illinois, where he studied drafting and design.

He was self employed in the concrete business in Marlborough for forty one years as the owner of Carlton Sherrick Concrete Forms and Foundations.

Carlton was a member of the Lutheran Church and Boy Scouts of America. He loved his family and enjoyed having family reunions at his home and in New York. He loved wood working, fishing, hunting and flying his homing pigeons.

Mr. Sherrick is survived by his daughters; Connie Rogers of Hudson, FL. Brenda Beeler and her husband James of Dublin, Crystal OGrady and her husband Drew of Boylston, MA. His sisters; Beulah Lee and her husband Robert of N.C. Marion Frint and her husband Earl of Fl. Grandchildren; Langdon McGuirk, Carlen McGuirk, Corey Nystrom, Mark Nystron, Carlton Groves, Jesse Groves and Angie Jay. Great grandchildren; Felicity Nystrom, , Dylan Nystrom, Logan Nystrom, Collin Nystrom, Courtney Nystrom, Sophie Nystrom and Rylee Black in addition to nieces, nephews, extended family and his special friends; Paul and Arlene Moorehouse. Carlton is predeceased by his siblings; Ralph Sherrick and Ramona Jacobs. He is also predeceased by his grandson Brian Nystrom who passed on March 4, 2013.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11am. with military honors to be given in the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. There are no calling hours and burial will take place later. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Carlton D.
