James (Jim) E. Barrett 65 of Keene died peacefully in the familiar surroundings of his home with the love and compassion of his family at his side on December 11, 2010.
He was born the son of Agnes (Fitzgerald) and James E. Barrett Sr. on April 25, 1945 in Raleigh, N.C.
He was educated in Long Island N.Y. and graduated from North Shore High School class of 1963. After taking a few years off Jim went back to school and graduated from Franklin Pierce College class of 1970.
On July 16, 1966 Jim was married to Judith A. (Hall) at St. Bernard’s Church in Keene. She passed in January of 1992. Jim found love once again and married Kathleen (Fanning) on August 7, 1993. Kathleen also passed in June of 2004. He has been for many years with his current love, his Fiancee Linda F. Meattey.
Mr. Barrett has lived in Keene since 1965 and was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church. He has had many hobbies and interests over his life time. He enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, travel, cooking, winter camping and snowmobiling. He was also a mentor for many years for the Boy Scouts of America.
Mr. Barrett is survived by his children; Kirk Barrett and his wife Debra of Keene, Tammy Barrett of Marlborough and Ryan Barrett and his Fiancee Lori Dodge of Keene. Jim’s Fiancee Linda F. Meattey of Keene. He also leaves his grandchildren Cora Stoodley, Andrew Gramolini Jr., Taylor Barrett, Fred (DJ) Scott, Kathleen Scott, Logan Barrett, Ashley Dodge, extended family and friends. He is pre-deceased by his parents and two wives. His only brother Thomas H. Barrett died earlier.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 5 to 7pm. A celebration of life with a liturgy of the word will be performed on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 10am. All in the funeral home with burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Rt. 12 South. Keene. In Lieu of flowers Mr. Barrett has asked that donations be made to the charity of ones choice.
