Gerald A. Scadova, 84, a long-time resident of Keene died on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. He
passed peacefully while sleeping after a period of declining health.

Daniel J. Petrowicz Sr.

Daniel J. Petrowicz Sr. 92, a Long-time resident of Swanzey and formerly of Montague, Massachusetts died on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Maplewood Nursing home in Westmoreland, NH. He passed peacefully while sleeping.

Dan was born the son of the late Felixa (Pilaszewicz) and Peter Petrowicz on January 30, 1925 in Montague, Massachusetts. He was educated in Hatfield, MA. and graduated from Hatfield High School class or 1937.

On December 20, 1958 he exchanged vows with Gertrude Spooner at the First Congregational Church in Swanzey. Sadly, Gertrude passed on October 21, 2017 after fifty-nine years of marriage.

Dan was a meat cutter by trade. He was employed by the Wilber Supermarkets in Swanzey and Marlborough for many years before retiring in 1990. Prior, he had worked at Paul’s choice in Keene and Kulick’s in Winchester in a similar role. Dan was also a Police Officer for the Swanzey Police Department for several years.

In his free time Dan enjoyed reading and was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. He was also very handy. He enjoyed doing various projects around the house and helping his family and friends.

Mr. Petrowicz is survived by his three children; Daniel J. Petrowicz Jr. and his wife Debbie of Montague (Turners Falls) MA. James C. Walker and his wife Betty of Chesterfield, NH. and Corbee A. Kitzman and her husband Donald of Hoyt, KS. His grandchildren; Kimberly Hendrickson, Christina Gardner, Tawnya Brunelle, Lawrence Petrowicz, Nichole Stebbins, Daniel Petrowicz III, Henry Petrowicz and Danielle Boyd. A sister in-law, Dorothy J. Petrowicz of Hatfield, MA. In addition he leaves; several great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dan is pre-deceased by his siblings; Edward, Veronica, Priscilla, Irene, Eleanor, Anne, Leon, Julian, Charles and Peter.

In keeping with Dan’s wishes there are no public calling hours. A funeral is being planned for the spring in the family lot at Mountain View Cemetery, Swanzey, NH. 03446. Rosanne M. (Cross) Ciaramella

Rosanne M. (Cross) Ciaramella, 54, a long-time resident of Keene and surrounding area died on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. She passed peacefully after a valiant fight against Breast Cancer with the love and compassion of family near.

Rosanne was born the daughter of Carole (Grant) and the late Raymond Cross on February 27, 1963 in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

She was formerly married to Mark Ciaramella and has stayed friends with him over the years.

Rosanne was previously employed at Home Depot in Keene as a member of the Met Team. She had been there for eight years.

Time was spent crocheting and going to craft fairs. She was a loving and supportive mother to her three girls. When she became a grandmother her life changed. She was known by the grandchildren as “Grammie Gram”. Time was always made available for the grandchildren’s events in life. She was also involved in community activities. Rosanne gave freely of her time raising money for the Cheshire County Relay for Life and Joy’s Network.

Ms. Ciaramella is survived by her three daughters; Vanessa M. Calkins and her husband, Robert of Keene, Melissa A. Lake and her husband, Matthew of Keene, and Karissa L. Adams and her husband, Krystoffer of Keene. Her mother, Carole Cross of Revere, MA. Siblings; Cheryl Zawaski and her husband, Bob of Revere, MA. Raymond Cross Jr. and his wife, Susan of Revere, MA. and Karen Molina and her husband, Santos of Chelsea, MA. Eight grandchildren; Jakob Calkins, Blake Adams, Savannah Ciaramella, Lauryn Adams, Ava Ciaramella, Baylee Calkins, Brynn Lake and Declan Lake. In addition she leaves her adoptive children, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 3 to 6pm. in the funeral chapel. Burial will be private in the spring at Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Ave. Keene. Concetta “Connie” (Tosches) C. Ellis

Concetta “Connie” (Tosches) C. Ellis, 95, of Keene, New Hampshire, and formerly of Marlborough, NH. died on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. She passed peacefully while resting.

She was born on June 10, 1922 in Milford, Massachusetts The daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Tosches. Connie graduated from Milford High School in 1940 and then went on to study at Burdett College in Boston. After college, Connie was the Secretary for Judge William A. Murray for many years. Connie was the President of Robert Frascotti VFW Post in Milford and also a member of the Pleidies Eastern Stars. Other organizations included the Catemount Grange, Pittsfield, James Farrington, and the D.A.V. Axillary. She also belonged to Northwood Demolay while son, Robert, was Master Councilor.

Connie lived in Wayland, MA after marriage, then moved to Derry, NH where her husband ran a sporting goods store and antique store. She later moved to Pittsfield, NH and operated an antique shop. While living there, she was a member of the Pittsfield Baptist Church. Connie later moved to Marlborough, NH and operated an antique shop. After her husband and son’s death, Connie moved to Keene, NH. to live with her daughter. Connie worked at Wheelock School as a foster grandparent for 16 years. She was known as “Gram” to all children, faculty and parents, retiring in 2010. Connie was a Notary Public and a Justice of the Peace for over 50 years. In that time, she performed wedding ceremonies for all her family members.

On June 9, 2002 Connie was presented with a “Gubernatorial Certificate of Appreciation” by former Governor Jean Shaheen, for her years of dedicated service for her years at Wheelock School. On June 3, 2009, Connie received a citation from Governor John Lynch, NH celebrating her 87th birthday and services she provided throughout her lifetime. This was presented to her by Representative Neal Kurk of Weare, NH at her birthday celebration. In 2010, she received an honorable mention from the Shopper News as being a Mother of the Year.

Gram loved to crochet, read, and to bake bread, which she shared with her many friends. She loved to go to yard-sales, out to lunch, and to York Beach in Maine with her daughter Jane, who took care of her throughout her years.

Mrs. Ellis is survived by her son, Joshua Ellis and wife Kay of Troy, NH. Daughter, Jane Fournier and husband Maurice of Keene, NH. Son, George Ellis and wife Lisa of Swanzey, NH. and former daughter in law Jill Stubbs and husband Rodney of Swanzey, NH. Grandchildren; Tiffany Ellis, John Athanasopoulos, Vanessa Sheehan and husband Jeff, Robert Athanasopoulos, Rabecca Fournier, Jessica Cumings and husband Jeff, Jennifer Ellis, Robert Ellis, Adrianna Ellis, and Dominic Ellis. Great grandchildren; Jaiden Fournier, Kamden Athanasopoulos, Ethin and Dylan Sheehan, Chelsea and Cameron Cumings, Dakota Ayotte, Briella Delaney, and great grandpups, Adrian Fournier and Lucy Mae. Her special friend, Hellen Kirk of Weare, NH. In addition she leaves cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Connie was pre-deceased by her husband Robert A. Ellis, son Robert G. Ellis, brother Alfred Tosches and wife Mary, brother, Louis A. Tosches and sister Dora Tosches. Condolences may be sent to daughter Jane Fournier, 550 Marlboro St. Keene, NH 03431.

Howard “Whitey” F. Smith. Jr.

59, a life-long resident of Swanzey died unexpectedly at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene on Saturday, December 23, 2017.

Howard was born the son of the late Ruth J. (Wilson) and Howard F. Smith Sr. on December 30, 1957 in Keene. He was educated locally and graduated from Monadnock Regional High School, class of 1976.

On April 23, 2001 he exchanged vows with Catherine A. Wilkins. They were married in a simple service in Las Vegas, Nevada. They have been married for sixteen years.

Whitey was the owner and operator of the W & W Trucking Company based in Swanzey. He has owned the company for almost twenty years. Prior, Whitey had worked for Cheshire Transportation, now Laidlaw Trucking and Beaman Lumber.

He enjoyed many things in life. In his younger years Whitey was a football player for the Monadnock Regional High School. Whitey had a soft spot for horses. He loved to be around them and he was always up for going to horse pulls. Time was spent watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins. He also enjoyed other sports too.

Whitey’s love of muscle cars was well known. He loved the look of the old Chevy Chevelle. As time went on in life things changed. He loved to spent time with his wife, children and eventually grandchildren.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Catherine “Cathy” A. Smith of Swanzey. His children; Christina Clement, her husband Steven of Hinsdale, son in law Mathew Mattson, and his son Jeffrey S. Putnam of Newmarket. His siblings; Robert Smith of Swanzey, Lou Smith and his wife Lisa of Swanzey and Tina Labarre and her husband John of Swanzey. Grandchildren; Haile Mattson, Morgan Mattson, Tyler Mattson, Mariah Holden, Kelsi Clement and Connor Clement. A great grandchild, Liyanna Holden. His brother in-law Al Dingman of Swanzey. In addition he leaves cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Whitey is pre-deceased by his daughter Rebecca Mattson, sister Naomi Dingmand, and sister in-law Andrea Smith who passed earlier.
