Barbara “Barb” I. (Shepard) Washburn, 83, of Troy and formerly of Keene died on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Keene Center Genesis in Keene. She passed peacefully with her family near after a period of declining health.
Barbara was born the daughter of the late Helen (Jestings) Barton and Samuel Shepard on December 27, 1932 in Raymond. She was educated in the Raymond and Deerfield schools.
She worked at the Ramada Inn in Keene for nine years as a chambermaid before retiring in 1991. Prior, she was a stay at home mom raising her children and keeping her home in proper order.
Barb was an active member of the Salvation Army Church in Keene for many years. She enjoyed crocheting and playing bingo. When time permitted she could be found cultivating her flower gardens. She was an avid walker spending time in the woods or taking a casual stroll of the neighborhood. Time was spent with her family and with time came grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren.
Ms. Washburn is survived by her children; Susan A. Gallagher and her husband Cornelius of Troy, Larry E. Washburn and his wife Joy of West Chesterfield, Deborah M. Washburn and her significant other Kermit Gray of Johnsonville, S.C. David W. Washburn of Spofford and Peggy L.Washburn and her significant other Richard Wixon of Keene. Barbara’s siblings; Sylvia Ortell of Swanzey and Lois Klardie of Goffstown. In addition she leaves ten grandchildren, Christopher Lent, Dawn Lent, Melissa Gallagher, Cornelius Gallagher, Shana Thompson, Arthur Tedford, Brandon Wilber, Kristin Wilber, Valerie King and Dakota Wixon, 28 great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
