Alec C. Kimball

Alec C. Kimball, 29, of Keene died unexpectedly at his home on October 21, 2021. He was born November 13, 1991 in Lebanon, NH at the newly constructed Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, the son of Nancy and Michael Kimball.

Alec had a passion for the outdoors, spending many hours and days hiking, camping and kayaking. Alec was an avid photographer and loved taking pictures of nature. He had an eclectic taste in music from the Grateful Dead to Elvis and from the Beatles to Echo and the Bunnymen. Alec loved to cook and took pride and joy in discovering new combinations of food. He grew up and was raised in Newport and spent many years after that in Sunapee, enjoying the lake, landscaping and the processes of making honey and maple syrup. Alec spent the past several years living in Keene enjoying the Monadnock Region.

Alec is survived by his mother Nancy Kimball and her husband Matthew Sweeney of Sunapee; his father Michael Kimball and his wife Judy Kimball of Campton; his sister Samantha Somero, her husband Waylon Somero and their children Sigrid, Theos and Ari of Bennington. He also leaves his maternal grandmother Lois Berube of Goshen; his Uncle Allan Kimball and Aunt Madonna Kimball of Wimberley, Texas. Alec also leaves his many aunts, uncles and cousins scattered around the United States.

It was Alec’s wish to be cremated and have his ashes spread in places that he loved. It was also Alec’s wish not to have a service.

Barbara H. Formica

Barbara H. Formica, 88, of Greenfield and formerly of Hadley passed away peacefully on October 19, 2021, in the comfort of her home with the loving family by her side.

Barbara was born on September 2, 1933, in Mt. Desert Island, Maine. She is a daughter to the late Katherine L. (Dickens) and Donald S. Hodgdon.

As a young woman working in Connecticut at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Barbara met the love of her life, Paul Formica Jr. They exchanged vows on October 11, 1952, in Hartford, Connecticut with friends and family in attendance. Sadly, Paul passed on September 20, 1990, after almost thirty-eight years of marriage.

For many years Mrs. Formica was a dedicated stay-home mother. Her children were the highlight of her life, she loved to spend time with them and their friends. Once her children were grown, she returned to the workforce as an accountant at the Veteran Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Hartford, Connecticut.

Barbara was always interested in learning new things and had many hobbies. She was an avid knitter and was always enjoyed making socks, she also enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Barbara was very self-educated and determined to figure things out on her own. She loved to cook for everyone around her and enjoyed her time reading. You would always find her attending services at the Greenfield Alliance Church.

Barbara leaves behind her 3 children; Kathy and her husband, Stanley Stosz of Heath, MA. Angela C. and her husband, Brian Church of West Chesterfield, NH. and Paul “Skip” Formica III of Greenfield, MA. She also leaves several siblings; her sisters, Hilma Adams, Ella Hodgdon, and Joyce Staley, and brothers Donald, Paul, and Tom Hodgdon.

In addition, she is survived by her loving 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, along with cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Barbara is pre deceased by her son, Daniel J. Formica who passed away on September 1, 2021.

Services for Barbara will be held at a later date.

Richard R. Southwick

Richard R. Southwick, 87, a resident of Hudson for sixty years and formerly of Hampton and North Hampton died on Friday, October 8, 2021. He passed peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side.

He was born the son of the late Geneva L. (Orvis) and Raymond W. Southwick on December 10, 1933, in Craig, IA. He was educated in Hampton and graduated from Winnacunnet High School class of 1951. He went on to college for a year.

Soon after college, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on October 20, 1954.

After being discharged Rick met his soon-to-be wife and on August 12, 1957, he exchanged vows with Jean A. Blakeborough at the North Church in Portsmouth. They were married with family and friends in attendance and have been married for sixty-four years.

Richard then went back to college and graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science and Business class of 1959.

Richard was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying camping and hiking with his family. He liked to hunt and fish and was a fifty-year member of the Nashua Fish and Game Association where he held several offices. During the Countries bicentennial he was involved with the Stark’s Rangers, a revolutionary War reenactment group where he took a great interest in muzzle-loading and shooting.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and will be greatly missed by a wide circle of family and friends.
Mr. Southwick is survived by his wife, Jean A. Southwick of Hudson. His children; Kevin Southwick and his wife, Rhonda of Merrimack. Vicki Brown and her husband, Milton Jr. of Dublin. Karen Zitta and her husband, Gary of Swanzey. Bryan Southwick and his wife, Karen of Weare and Eric Southwick and his long-time companion, Drew Crete of Londonderry. He also delighted in his twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Richard’s wishes, there are no calling hours. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of life service is being planned for a later date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in memory of Richard R. Southwick to:

Tara L. (Tedford) Smith

Tara L. (Tedford) Smith, 39, of Winchester, died unexpectedly while sleeping on Sunday, November 15, 2020, in the comfort of her home with the love of family near.

Tara was born the daughter of Cindy (Flagg) and Wayne Tedford on December 1, 1980, in Waterbury, CT. She attended schools in CT. and locally. She graduated from Thayer High School class of 1999.

She always worked in the fast-food industry as a young person. Later she was employed at Smith’s Medical in Keene just prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom raising her three boys to who she devoted her life with love and affection.

On June 12, 2014, she exchanged vows with Shaun Smith in a simple ceremony in Winchester. They were married with close family and friends in attendance and have been married for six years.

Tara enjoyed camping with family and friends. On every trip, they would always find new places to camp. Day trips were a must when camping exploring the region and finding new adventures. Time was also spent with family at family functions.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Shaun Smith of Winchester. Her father, Wayne Tedford of Keene. Three children; Christopher Bowne of Keene. Jeffery Bowne of Keene and Jasper Smith of Winchester. Her brother, Arthur Tedford and his wife, Jennifer of Winchester. In addition, she is survived by: aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Tara is pre-deceased by her mother, Cindy Tedford who passed on May 3, 2021, and her brother, Anthony “Tony” Tedford on April 10, 2010.

In keeping with Tara’s wishes, there were no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held in the family lot on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery, Forest Lake Rd. Winchester, NH. 03470.

Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Tara L. Smith to Grace Christian Fellowship, 81 Ashuelot St. Winchester, NH. 03470.
