William “Bill” S. MacPhail Jr.

William “Bill” S. MacPhail Jr. 68, a long-time resident of Swanzey and formerly of Marlborough died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at home.

William was born the son of the late Ruth (Atamamien) and William S. MacPhail Sr. on May 29, 1949 in Keene. Born and raised in Keene, he was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1967. Bill was formerly married to Suzanne (Bergevin) MacPhail.

Bill was a successful business man in the automobile business. He began his career at Double A Auto Body in Keene. He founded Bill’s Auto Body on Main Street in Keene in 1972. Bill was the owner and operator of the Rt. 10 Auto Repair in West Swanzey. He has run the business since 1985.

In his free time Bill enjoyed fishing, going kayaking and classic cars, especially his 1957 Corvette convertible. Bill had a love for antiques and collectables. Time was spent going to car shows, swap meets, and flea markets.

Bill had a civic side to him. He was a long-time member of the Elks Club in Keene. He was a frequent patron to many local restaurant establishments, often found at a table full of friends sharing stories. He could often be found “just coolin it” in the showroom at his shop with his best friend Bear, a German Shepard. He had many German Shepards (all of whom were named Bear) and multiple Boxers over the years.

Mr. MacPhail is survived by his two sons; Scott W. MacPhail and his wife, Stephanie of Swanzey and Jay R. MacPhail of Swanzey. He is also survived by a brother, Edward MacPhail and his wife Susan of Swanzey. His three grandchildren; Ashlyn MacPhail, Kamram MacPhail and Tallon MacPhail. In addition he leaves cousins, extended family and numerous friends. Bill is pre-deceased by his brother Frederick MacPhail who passed on August 9, 2005.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes there are no calling hours. A gathering to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Friday, August 18th from noon to 4pm at 665 West Swanzey Rd, Swanzey, NH, at Rt. 10 Auto. In lieu of flowers, Bill would appreciate a donation be made in his name to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Rd. Swanzey, NH. 03446

One of Bill’s favorite frazes was “Fill not your heart with pain and sorrow but remember me in every tomorrow…Remember the joy, the laughter, and the smiles.”
