Virginia “Ginny” R. (White) Shepardson

Virginia “Ginny” R. (White) Shepardson, 78, a resident of Roxbury and formerly of Hillsborough, West Swanzey, Marlborough, Royalston, MA and Athol, MA. passed away peacefully while resting with the love of family by her side on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.

She was born to the late Helen (Darling) and Cyrille A. White on January 29, 1945 in Winchendon, MA. Ginny attended local Massachusetts schools and graduated from Athol High School in Athol, MA. class of 1962.

On May 17, 1963, Virginia exchanged vows with her high school sweetheart, David C. Shepardson. They had a simple service at the Athol Congregational Church in Athol, MA. They were happily married for 55 years until David passed away on October 2, 2018. Ginny enjoyed her time working for Country Spirit Restaurant in Henniker, NH as a waitress for 15 years until she retired in 2005. Prior, she worked for Friendly’s in Keene as a waitress for over 20 years. She also formerly worked for Starrett’s in Athol and Robert Hart Shoe Factory in Keene as an administrative clerk.

Along with working, Ginny enjoyed watching and feeding birds, a lover of all kinds of animals, attended raffles at local sportsman’s clubs, and spent time working on her flower gardens. She loved orchids and watching the black bears who would raid her bird feeders. Ginny was a member of the Keene Area Klassics Car Club and was the former President. She also attended the annual Dana Reunion for the town of Dana, MA which was submerged when the Quabbin reservoir was flooded.

Most recently, Ginny had served as the Trustee of Trust Funds, as well as the Supervisor of the Checklist for the town of Roxbury, NH. Ginny enjoyed her work as a member on the town of Roxbury boards.

Mrs. Shepardson is survived by her two children, Daniel Shepardson and his wife, Mary of Keene, Andrew “Andy” D. Shepardson of Roxbury, her two siblings, Margie Day and her husband, Lowell of Barstow, CA., and Evelyn Tarmon of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Melissa Adkins, Michael Parkhurst, and Christopher Parkhurst, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, David Shepardson, and her two siblings, Richard White and William White.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Cheshire Family Funeral Home, 46 S. Winchester St. Swanzey, NH. 03446. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 4, 2024, at the Cheshire Family Funeral Home, Swanzey.

A burial will take place later in the spring of 2024 in the family lot at Stewart-Maple Cemetery, Athol-Richmond Rd. Rt. 32 Royalston, MA. 01368. Although flowers will gladly be accepted, the family has asked that all donations be made out to the Swift River Valley Historical Society, 40 Elm St. New Salem, MA. 01355. The Swift River Valley Historical Society coordinates the reunions for the towns affected by the Quabbin Reservoir.
