Thomas “Tom” J. Greene III 74 of Keene and formerly of North Walpole died early in the morning of Friday, April 04, 2014 at Keene Center Genesis in Keene. He passed peacefully while sleeping after a period of declining health.
Tom was born the son of the late Catherine (Stubbert) and Edmund Greene on July 8, 1939 in Newton, Massachusetts. He was educated in Newton and graduated from Newton Technical High School class of 1958.
Tom was a patriotic soul. He enlisted in the U.S. Army out of high school on June 22, 1958. He served his country as a Nike Ajax Technician. Tom was honorably discharged on September 9, 1965 from Btry. B. 4th. GM. Bn. 2d. Gm. Gp. Fort Bliss, Texas at the rank of Specialist / E4.
On February 2, 1963 he exchanged vows with Catherine J. Cox at Our Lady of the Affliction in Waltham, Massachusetts with family and friends in attendance. They have been married for fifty one years.
Tom worked for Pizza Hut Corporation as an Assistant Manager in Keene for thirteen years until 1996. He then worked as a Deli Clerk at Hannafords Supermarket until 2013, as he enjoyed his golden years with his family. Prior he was gainfully employed as the proprietor of the North Walpole Cash Market.
He was a member of St. Bernards Church in Keene. Tom enjoyed his time as a Volunteer Fireman for the Town of North Walpole. He was also a former Police Officer when the Greenes lived in Holliston, Massachusetts and a proud member of the American Legion in Keene for many years.
Mr. Greene is survived by his wife Catherine J. Greene of Keene. His daughters and their spouses; Elizabeth A. Griffin and her husband George of Griswold, CT. Sharon M. Bushway and her husband James of Princeton, MA. and Mary T. Manwaring and her husband Robert of Alstead. Tom is also survived by his seven grandchildren; Emmet and his wife Kathryn, Ryan, Christopher, Matthew, Emma, Thomas and Eleanor. In addition he leaves cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is pre deceased by his sister Catherine LaCroix who passed in 1988.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 6 to 8pm. in the funeral chapel. A Mass will be given on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 10am. in St. Bernards Church / Parish of the Holy Spirit, 185 Main St. Keene, NH. 03431. Burial with military honors will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 1pm. in the family lot at Calvary Cemetery, 250 High St. Waltham, MA. 02453. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family has requested donations be made in memory of Thomas J. Greene III to Hospice and Community Services, 312 Marlboro St. Keene, NH. 03431.
