Thomas James, “Tom” Magee, Sr, 89 of Warwick Road in Winchester, a lifelong resident of the area died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, February 1, 2018 at Cheshire Medical Center Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Keene.

Mr. Magee was born in Winchester on March 31, 1928 the son of Henry and Velda (Thompson) Magee. He was raised and educated in Winchester and was a graduate of Thayer High School, Class of 1947.

He had been employed as a tool maker at the former American Optical/Warner Lambert Company in Keene where he retired from following 30 faithful and dedicated years with the company.

Mr. Magee was a Fourth Degree Knight, Knights of Columbus Saint Joseph’s Council #6971 where he served as District Deputy for four years, He held membership in the Holy Name Society and was a former member of the Winchester Kiwanis Club.

Active civically, he served on both the Winchester Select Board and Winchester School District Board, was a former member of the Winchester Volunteer Fire Department and was a New Hampshire certified EMT and volunteer with the Winchester Town Ambulance Squad.

A devout Catholic, Mr. Magee was a communicant of Saint Stanislaus Parish in Winchester and was very active with the church’s weekly food bank.

Mr. Magee was proud of his Irish heritage and was fondly known as a “hard headed Irishman.” He will be remembered for his kindly personality and spirit of friendship and devotion to his community of Winchester. A true family man, his life centered around his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On May 14, 1949 in Winchester he was married to Charlotte Boyle. His faithful and loving wife of 49 years predeceased him in 1996.

Survivors include two sons, William Magee of Beverly, MA and Patrick Magee of Winchester, three daughters, Mary Castine of Winchester, Katherine Wright of Hinsdale and Roseann Bartok of Athol, MA, one sister, Bernice Magee of Manchester, MA, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Additionally, he leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Thomas Magee, Jr, one brother, Joseph Magee and a sister, Doris Magee.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Stanislaus Church Richmond Road in Winchester with Fr. Britto Adaikalam, pastor, celebrant. A reception will follow the Mass, to be held in the fellowship hall at the church.

Committal Rites and burial in the Magee family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Winchester will be held in the springtime when the cemetery reopens.

Friends are invited to call at the Cheshire Family Funeral Home 46 South Winchester Street in Swanzey Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 6 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Saint Vincent De Paul Food Pantry, 82 Richmond Road, Winchester, N.H. 03470.
