Susan “Susie” Fay Richmond, 64, passed away on August 7th, 2010 in Colorado Springs, CO after a two year battle with cancer.

Born Dec 10th, 1945 in Colrain, MA to Donald G. Shearer and Leta G. (Coburn) Shearer, Susan was raised in Colrain and attended Arms Academy and Kay Harvey Hairdressing Academy. She was previously married to Dennis A. Sevene of Greenfield, MA and Andrew K. Richmond of Arizona.

In the early 1980’s, Susan followed her family lineage of law enforcement, becoming a police officer for the town of Shelburne Falls, MA. She was also owner and a lead instructor of the former Scorpion Karate Academy in Greenfield. She later resided in Hawaii, California, Texas, and ultimately Colorado, working in diverse supervisory security and loss prevention related positions. She received several commendations and accolades for her varied achievements and strong work ethic.

Susan held a 2nd degree black belt in martial arts and was an avid horseback rider throughout her lifetime. She had a profound love for all animals, enjoyed country dancing, gardening, and Native American culture and dcor. She possessed a keen sense of humor and had a flair for crafts, interior decorating and bargain hunting.

Susan is survived by two sons, Dennis A. Sevene and Corey L. Sevene, both of Colorado Springs, CO. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Taysia M. Sevene and Cody L. Sevene, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and both brothers, Dexter B. Shearer and Douglas L. Shearer.

A graveside service is planned for Sept 10th, 2010 at 10:30 am at West Branch Cemetery in Colrain. Arrangements are under the direction of Cheshire Family Funeral Home in West Swanzey, NH.

Due to her lifelong concern for animals, donations in honor of Susan’s life should be made to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society.
