Ryland (Jack) C. Carrier, 91, of Swanzey, NH. and formerly of Putney, VT and Winchester, NH died on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Applewood Care Center in Winchester. He passed peacefully after a period of declining health.

Jack was born the son of the late Dorothy (Campbell) and Harold G. Carrier on April 25, 1924 in Greenfield, MA. He was educated in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School class of 1941. After high school Jack went of in his studies and attended Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts.

He left college to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he found his passion as a baker. Jack was stationed in the Pacific Theatre. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, WII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Jack was honorably discharged at the rank of Baker Second Class on April 4, 1946.

On October 29, 1976 he exchanged vows with Margaret L. Bingell. They were married in a simple service with close family and friends in attendance. The Carriers have been married for thirty nine years.

Jack was a businessman and owner of Ye Olde Coffee Shop in Brattleboro, VT for 10 years before retiring in 1986.

He was a lover of horses, riding and training them. Jack was also a Lifetime Member of the VFW, Post #1034 in Brattleboro, VT. and the American Legion, Post #5 in Brattleboro, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Brattleboro and the Brattleboro Elks Club.

Mr. Carrier is survived by his wife Margaret L. Carrier of Swanzey. His children; Eva Carrier of Greenfield, MA. and Sandra L. Whitcomb and her husband Dan of Williamstown, VT. Children from a combined marriage; Scott Gentley, Leonard Sylvain, Douglas Sylvain, Doreen Currier and husband Bruce. Six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jack is pre-deceased by his siblings; Beryl St. Hillaire, Elizabeth Gates and Dorothy Kimball.

In keeping with Jacks wishes there are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at South Cemetery, Leyden, MA. with military honors with a formal obituary to run in the paper at that time. Donations can be made to the charity of ones choice in memory of Ryland C. Currier.
