Ruth E. (MacEachern) Joyce, 95, of Swanzey, passed away peacefully and quietly while sleeping on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 after a brief period of declining health.

She was born a daughter of the late Mary (Campbell) and William MacEachern on January 19, 1927, in Cambridge, MA. She was educated at Cambridge High School in Cambridge, MA.

On July 4, 1949, Ruth exchanged vows with the love of her life, F. Vincent Joyce Jr. They had a simple service in Massachusetts with their family and friends and had been happily married for 47 years when he passed away on February 26, 1996.

Ruth worked at F.W. Woolworths as a sales representative for 7 years; that is where she met her future husband.

Ruth enjoyed owning and operating Joyce’s Country Variety in Swanzey for 17 years. She was also employed by Maple Hill Nursery as a caretaker for 3 years before retiring in 2002.

Ruth had many different hobbies she loved to do such as ceramics, working on her flower

and vegetable gardens, going swimming, boating, being by the ocean, and traveling. She was also very involved with the Bridge Club.

Mrs. Joyce is survived by her two children William “Bill” V. Joyce and wife Linda of Swanzey and Robert “Bob” J. Joyce of Swanzey. She is also survived by her five grandchildren Vincent “Vince” Joyce of Swanzey, Amber R. Joyce and significant other Christopher “Spike” Shelley and their son Odin Robert Shelly of Langdon, Richard Rivers and his significant other Audrey Mason of South Carolina, Todd Rivers and husband Matthew McTygue of Watertown, MA. and

William Rivers of Surry, and their children along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is now rejoined with her husband, parents, along with her three siblings Hazel Strength, Eunice Walsh, and Chester MacEachern.

Ruth  will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 11, 2022, at 9 am. in the family lot at Mountain View Cemetery, Old Homestead HWY, Rt. 32 S. Swanzey, Nh. 03446.


Old Homestead Hwy, Swanzey, NH 03446. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 W. Swanzey Rd, Swanzey NH 03446.

Services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Home and Crematories, 46 South Winchester Street, Swanzey, NH. 03446.
