Roger E. Clark, 71, a long-time resident of Keene and formerly of South Royalton, VT, died on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. He passed peacefully with his loving family near after a period of declining health.
Roger was born the son of the late Loraine (Manning) and Stanley Clark on December 18, 1946 in Randolph, VT. He was educated in South Royalton and graduated from South Royalton High School, Class of 1964.
On January 12, 1967 he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Sharp Shooter – M-14 Award and was honorably discharged at the rank of Private E-2 after completing his enlistment on August 7, 1971. He then went into the Army Reserves where he retired at the rank of Staff Sergeant E-6 after twenty-three years of loyal and honorable service.
On May 14, 1966 he exchanged vows with Carolyn A. Mack at St. Donation Rogation Church in Randolph, VT. They were married with family and friends in attendance and have been married for fifty-two years.
Roger worked as a Service Technician for the Cheshire Oil Company in Keene until his retirement in 2003. Prior, he had worked at Webber Oil in Keene in a similar role for over fifteen years. He was also the former co-owner of the Ashuelot River Yacht Club.
For fun, Roger enjoyed playing in the Greater Keene Men’s Softball League for many years. He also liked to watch NASCAR and sing Karaoke. He could always be found working on various house projects or working in the yard. He was not one to sit idle and was always a very hard worker.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. Clark of Keene. His three children: Michele A. Burnham and her husband Robert of Keene, Robin L. Gallant and her husband Scott of Keene and Greg E. Clark and his wife Lynn of Rutland, VT. His siblings: Judy McCabe of Windsor, VT. And Doug Clark and his wife Liz of Cheshire CT. His thirteen grandchildren: Dylan, Tyler, Angelina, Sarah, Hunter, Jayden, Gunner, Mellissa, Paige, Taylor, Emma, Sophie, Macayla and Sophia. In addition, he leaves two great grandchildren: Joseph and Hailie; cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Roger is pre-deceased by his parents and sister Cheryl Vesper.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 5 to 7pm in the funeral chapel. Burial will occur in the spring at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon with military honors. Flowers will gladly be accepted.
