Robert “Bob” J. Hadden, 86, a long-time resident of Keene, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene on Thursday, December 7, 2023, after a brief period of declining health.
He was born to the late Eileen Hadden on September 20, 1937, in Goffstown, NH, and was educated locally at Goffstown High School, class of 1955.
On April 5, 1958, Robert exchanged vows with the love of his life, Rosalie “Rose” A. Dinerman. They had a simple service at the Congregational Church of Bennington, NH with their friends and family celebrating them. They were married for almost sixty-three years until Rose passed away on March 26, 2021.
Robert worked for the US Postal Service for thirty-five years, until his retirement in 1990. In the later years of his career, he served as Post Master for the Antrim and Spofford offices, where he took great pride in keeping accurate records and ensuring all of the mail was delivered to the correct addresses. He also worked part-time at the Grand Union supermarket on West Street in Keene for many years.
Bob enjoyed spending time at his Granite Lake cottage with all his family, spending the winters in Florida with his wife, working on his vegetable gardens, and giving so freely of his harvest. Robert loved playing cribbage, bowling candlepins, watching baseball (especially the Boston Red Sox and the Swamp Bats), and could often be found at baseball spring training games in Florida. Bob was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Keene, and more recently attended the Union Church in Westmoreland.
Robert was a kind and gentle soul, always willing to make sacrifices to bring joy to others. Bob made friends wherever he went, always with a beaming smile and a cheery attitude. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Mr. Hadden is survived by his three children: Donald C. Hadden of Littleton, John C. Hadden of Goffstown, and David A. Hadden of Keene. He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Seth A. Hadden, Benjamin J. Hadden, and Jennifer R. Hadden all of Keene, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Robert was predeceased by his wife, Rosalie Hadden, his daughter, Jenifer R. Hadden who passed away in 1977, and his sister, Susan Zabriski.
In keeping with Robert’s wishes for a modest funeral there will be no services. A private burial will take place in the family lot at the Monadnock View Cemetery, located on Park Ave. in Keene, NH. All services are under the care of Cheshire Family Funeral Home and Crematories, 46 S. Winchester St. Swanzey, NH. 03446. www.cheshirefamilyfh.com.
