Robert “Bob” H. Gewanter, 90, of Keene, passed away peacefully while sleeping on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Alpine Health Care.
He was born a son to the late Ester (Gast) and Robert Gewanter on March 5, 1932, in Queens, NY. He was educated at Stuyvesant High School in New York City, class of 1949. After graduating high school, he attended Michigan State University earning his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, class of 1953.
On July 4, 1957, Robert exchanged vows with the love of his life, the late Marcia S. Goldenberg. They had a lovely wedding with their family and friends by their side.
Robert loved swimming in his younger years, always following the Boston Red Sox, woodworking, and taking walks with his dogs. Bob and his wife traveled to Europe, they enjoyed every minute of being there and learning about the culture. He was very active within the community such as being a member of the Congregation of Ahavas Achim, Morgan Owners Car Club, and participated in the Gymkhana and rally auto racing.
Mr. Gewanter is survived by his children, Catherine F. Gewanter of Rockville, MD. And Elizabeth “Beth” and her husband Greg Thoms of Potomac, MD. and his grandchild, Emma Thoms of Potomac, MD, and his sister-in-law Norma Gewanter of Deerfield MA. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Robert is now rejoined with his wife Marcia Gewanter who passed on June 2, 1993, along with his parents and his brother, Teddy Gewanter.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Beth Moses Cemetery, 1500 Wellwood Ave. West Babylon, NY. 11704.
