Robert “Bob” F. Parent Sr. 91, a long time resident of Swanzey died on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Langdon Place of Keene. He passed peacefully after a period of declining health.
Bob was born the son of the late Helen (Curtis) and Victor Parent on March 20, 1923 in Framingham, Massachusetts. He was educated locally and attended schools in Gilsum and Keene.
On October 18, 1942 he exchanged vows with Dorothy H. Hulslander. They were married in a simple service in Nashua, NH. They had been together for over seventy two years. On October 18, 2012 they renewed their vows in front of family and friends for their seventieth anniversary at the home of their son Robert F Parent Jr.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II on January 8, 1943. He served as a Surgical Technician in the Medical Corps and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal on March 20, 1945.
Bob worked for the Kingsbury Machine Tool Corporation in Keene for twenty eight years as an Electrician and Electrical Supervisor. He retired in 1988 to enjoy time with his family. Prior, Bob had worked for Henry and Johnson Electric in Keene and Keene Silk and Fiber.
Bob enjoyed many things in life especially his family. He was a water dowser, hunter and fisherman. He was an avid golfer and lifelong member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Keene. In his earlier years he played Francois the butler in the Old Homestead. Bob was one who enjoyed a good laugh with family and friends.
Mr. Parent is survived by his wife, Dorothy H. Parent of Swanzey. His children and their spouses; Robert F Parent Jr. and his wife Patricia of Keene, Ronald Parent Sr. and his wife Jane of N. Swanzey, Heather Rocheleau and her husband Chuck of E. Swanzey. His siblings: Walter Stearns of Houston, TX and Joan Michelson of Fitchburg, MA. Grandchildren; Ronald W. Parent Jr and his wife Stacy of Boynton Beach Fl, Jessica Page and her husband Thane of Swanzey, Stephanie Hassapes and her husband Mark of Manchester, Vanessa Mansson of Keene, Allison Parent of Nashua, Robert Skrocki of Keene, Nicholas Skrocki of E. Swanzey, Kate Skrocki of E. Swanzey, Rylee Widner and her husband Chris of Wylie, Texas and Alana Rocheleau of Richmond. In addition he leaves sixteen great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
His brothers Richard Parent, William Stearns and Donald Stearns passed away earlier.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 2 to 4pm. in the funeral chapel. A celebration of life service will be held Monday November 17, 2014 at 2 pm. at the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, 679 Old Homestead HWY, Swanzey, NH. 03446. Burial will follow in the family lot at Mountain View Cemetery, Old Homestead HWY, Swanzey, NH 03446. Flowers will gladly be accepted or you may make a donation in memory of Robert F.
