Robert Bob A. Britton 94 a long time resident of West Swanzey and formerly of Gilsum died on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Keene Center Genesis. He passed peacefully after a brief period of declining health.
Bob was born the son of the late Naomi (Stebbins) and Herman Britton on May 28, 1919 in Alstead. He was educated in Gilsum and left school after the eighth grade as so many of his generation did.
On July, 4, 1943 he exchanged vows with Ruth Wheeler in a simple service in Keene. They were married for fifty one years until she passed in January of 1995.
Bob was employed for twenty two years at Kingsbury Corporation in Keene. He worked in the maintenance division and retired in 1981. He also was employed at the Homestead Woolen Mill for many years.
Bob was a private man with a very kind hearted soul. He was very handy and could fix almost anything. He liked to tinker with machinery and repair cars. He loved music and liked to dance.
Mr. Britton is survived by his daughter Ellen Doody and her husband Terry of Spofford. He also leaves his three grandchildren; Shannon Danko, Matthew Brulotte and Yvon Brulotte. Two great grandchildren, Emily Belden and Lily Danko. His siblings; Hazel Sakkinen of Keene and Elaine Wirta of California in addition to cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Bob is predeceased by his daughter Roberta Brulotte who passed in 1982 and Brother Paul Britton also passed earlier.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 2 to 4pm. in the funeral home. A private burial will take place this spring in the family lot in Alstead.
