Richard Dick R. Roy, 77, of Swanzey and formerly of Fitchburg and Gardner, Massachusetts died unexpectedly on Friday, February 5, 2016 in the comfort of his home with his wife near.

Richard was born the son of the late Marguerite (Ouellette) and James Roy on January 30, 1939 in Gardner, MA. He was educated in Gardner and Fitchburg but left early to join the military where he earned his GED.

On January 10, 1958 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Bomber Repairman during the Vietnam War. He completed his time on January 9, 1964 and was honorably discharged at the rank of A3C / E-2.

On February 16, 1985 he exchanged vows with Dawn I. Thomas. They were married in a simple service with close family and friends in attendance. The Roys have been married for almost thirty one years.

Dick was the owner and proprietor of the Apple Barn Antique Store in Leominster, MA. before retiring in 2002. Prior he had worked at Fenwal as a Fire Protection Engineer. After retirement Dick became a Substitute Teacher for the Monadnock Regional School District.

Dick enjoyed tracing his familys genealogy. He also enjoyed painting small model Revolutionary War military figurines. The detail he used to make them authentic to the scale of the military uniforms was so good that people would buy and order them from him. Dick liked working with kids. He coached Little League and was the President of the Babe Ruth Baseball League in Gardner, MA. He was a family man and a man of faith. Dick was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Keene.

Mr. Roy is survived by his wife, Dawn I. Roy of Swanzey. His children; Darryl Roy and his wife Linda of Waxhaw, N.C. Darren Roy and his wife Paula of Needham, MA. Kim Circello and her husband Nik of St. Petersburg, FL. David Roy and his wife Michelle of Fort Mill, S.C.. Children from a combined marriage; Dawn Wagner and her husband Jorge Chamorro of Salt Lake City, UT. and Merle Wagner Jr. of Lufkin, TX. His siblings: Georgette Rollins and her husband David of Bellingham, MA. Winnifred Maillet of Gardner, MA. James Roy and his wife Mary Ann of Gardner, MA. and Raymond Roy and his wife Kathy of Fort Myers, FL. Twelve grandchildren; Drew, Jessie, Amanda, Jamie, Bella, Aleah, Jonathan, Harrison, Pelagie, Piers, Truman, Alba. In addition to; cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dick is pre-deceased by his brother Neil Roy who passed earlier.
