Richard “Dick” DiMeco Sr. 91 a life-long resident of Keene and Swanzey died on Sunday August 6, 2017 at Cheshire Dartmouth – Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. He passed peacefully while sleeping after a brief period of declining health.

Richard was born the son of the late Gilda (Salce) and William DiMeco on January 25, 1926 in Keene where he attended local schools.

Soon after school Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served his enlistment and was honorably discharged.

On September 20, 1947 he exchanged vows with Sally H Gilman at St. Joseph’s Church in Woodsville NH. They were married with family and friends in attendance. Sadly, Sally passed on July 27,2014 after almost 67 years of marriage.

Dick was a hard working man. He worked with his hands as a mason for the MacMillan Company and other businesses for sixty years before retiring in 1997.

He enjoyed the outdoors. Time was spent hunting and fishing. He like a good game of cards with his friends Gerry & Shirley Metiver and was an avid sports fan. During the warmer weather he could be found watching the New York Yankees. When things were quiet he enjoyed the time with a good book. Mostly, Dick enjoyed his family.

Mr. DiMeco is survived by his five children: Richard DiMeco and his wife Tana, Kathy Bryson and her husband Ted, Margaret Nelson and her husband Paul, Elizabeth Batdorf and her husband Ed and Thomas DiMeco and his wife Helen.

He also leaves behind his siblings; Linda Burnette of Virginia, Mary Russell of Marlborough and Ronald DiMeco of Marlborough a sister in law Astrid (chickie) DiMeco. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends. Dick is pre-deceased by his siblings; Joseph DiMeco and Anna Andrus.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 23, 2017 from 6 to 8 at the Cheshire Family Funeral Home, 44 Maple Avenue, Keene. A mass will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 2pm at the Parish Of The Holy Spirit, St. Bernards Church, Main Street, Keene, NH. Burial will follow in the family lot with military honors at Mountain View Cemetery, Old Homestead Highway, RTE 32 Swanzey.
