Reinhard S. Loy, 87, a resident of Swanzey, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, after a brief period of declining health.
He was born a son to the late Helene (Mueller) and Ernst Loy on October 3, 1936, in Pompton Lakes, NJ. He was educated at Butler High School in New Jersey. Reinhard continued his education at Drew University and then earned his degree in Masters in Science at a University in Germany. He then earned his PhD in Chemistry from the Technical University of Munich.
Reinhard exchanged vows with the love of his life, Olivia Morrish. They had a simple service at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Newton, MA. with their family and friends gathered around them.
Reinhard was the Director of Membrane research for Schleicher and Schull as a chemical engineer for many years until he retired.
Reinhard loved to spend his time being outdoors. He would go hiking, skiing, and even would go hunting for various mushrooms. He enjoyed watching the wildlife and was an avid rock and mineral collector.
Mr. Loy is survived by his sister, Dina Maria Gardner of Wilmington DE., his brother-in-law-, David H. Morrish and wife Karen of West Palm Beach, FL., a niece, Dina Ann Gardner of Wilmington, DE., a nephew, David Morrish Jr. and wife Sally of Washington, NJ., and his cousin, Anna Perlowski of New Jersey. He is also survived by his close friends, Debra, Carol, Ann Marie, Carol, and Liana who helped him in his later years. Along with his caretakers, Terri and Trish. Reinhard was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Olivia Loy, and his brother-in-law, Thomas R. Gardner who passed away on October 26, 2021.
A memorial service will be at 10:00am on Saturday, November 11, 2023, in the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that all donations may be made out to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 W. Swanzey Rd. Swanzey, NH. 03446.
