Phyllis E. (Oliver) Hatfield, 78, a long-time resident of Winchester died on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Pine Heights Nursing Home in Brattleboro. She passed unexpectedly after a brief period of declining health.

Phyllis was born the daughter of the late Marion (Peterson) and Gordon Oliver on February 27, 1940 in Providence, Rhode Island. She was educated in Rhode Island and graduated from Cranston High School class of 1958. Phyllis went on in her studies and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy class of 1962.

On February 9, 1980 she exchanged vows with Gordon E. Hatfield. They were married in a simple service in Winchester with close family and friends in attendance. They have been married for thirty-eight years.

Phyllis worked as a Physical Therapist at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene for eighteen years before retiring in 2013.

She was an avid NASCAR fan. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, doing Sudoku and using her hands to make ceramics. Her favorite place to be was East White Horse Beach in Plymouth Massachusetts. Phyllis was always a giver of time to her community. She was a long-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary in Winchester where she held numerous positions including past President. She was also a member of the Mt. Pisgah Sportsmen’s Club, Eagles Women’s Auxiliary and the John Alden Club in Plymouth.

Mrs. Hatfield is survived by her husband Gordon E. Hatfield of Winchester. Her children; Virginia (Ginger) D. Younie and her husband John of Bremerton, WA. and Scott A. Hartley and his wife Jennifer Richards of Winchester; and her four grandchildren; Jacob Younie, Brenna Younie, Audrey Richards and Macie Richards. In addition, she leaves her sister in law and brother in law Carole and Will Vogeley of Chesterfield NH; and nephew Ed Lake of Acworth NH and niece Kelly Mosher of Sanford Maine, as well as many, many friends.

In keeping with Phyllis’ wishes there are no calling hours. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 2pm. in the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel and Crematories, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. Burial will take place later. WWW.cheshirefamilyfh.com
