Penelope “Penni” E. (Rossignol) Giles 65, of Swanzey died on Tuesday, January 26, 2015 at Cheshire Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Keene. She passed peacefully after a period of declining health with her love, Bruce Carbone near.

Penelope was born the adopted daughter of Edith (Webster) and Nelson W. Rossignol on December 31, 1949 in Bangor, Maine. She was educated in Maine and graduated from Gorham High School class of 1968.

In 1997 Penni became the love interest of Bruce W. Carbone. They had known each other for a few years prior to moving in together. Penni and Bruce have been partners in life for over seventeen years.

She was a woman of many gifts and abilities. Penni was the Coordinator for Facilities at the Brattleboro Retreat for a few years before retiring in 2013. Prior Penni had worked at Northfield Mt. Herman in Northfield as a payroll specialist, Dube’s Tire in Keene for many years as a payroll clerk and much earlier at the Brattleboro Retreat as a secretary and payroll specialist.

Penni was never one for sitting back and watching. She was a motivator, mover and a shaker. Time was spent working with community groups. She was a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Daly Whipple Post 799, where she was nationally recognized for her hard work in the many positions and roles she held at the post as well as at the department level, (Junior Vice President). She was also a member of the American Legion, Post 4 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 478 in Keene. Penni was a member of the Keene Veterans Council where she was the secretary and treasurer. Another civic organization she was associated with was the Sons of the American Revolution. When time permitted Penni could be found in her younger years riding horses, equestrian style. She enjoyed reading, swimming, dancing and being with her family.

Ms. Giles is survived by her significant other, Bruce W. Carbone of Swanzey. Her mother, Edith Rossignol of Brunswick, Maine in addition to cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Penni is pre-deceased by her son, Ronald J. Terroni who passed in 2008. Her father, Nelson W. Rossignol who passed on November 23, 1959 and her sister Patricia E. Leask who recently passed on January 9, 2015.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 2 to 4pm. in the chapel. Flowers will gladly be accepted. However, the family would prefer donations be made in memory of Penelope E.
