Paul W. Haynes, 91, of Swanzey, NH passed on to heaven peacefully in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, with the love of his life and his loving family surrounding him.
He was born the son of the late Esther E. (Maynard) and Joseph D. Haynes on December 10, 1931, in Keene, NH. Paul was educated locally at Keene Schools and graduated from Vilas High School, class of 1951.
On December 15, 1951, Paul exchanged vows with the love of his life, Gertrude A. Ball. They were married at the Sturtevant Chapel in Keene with family and friends surrounding them. Paul and Gertrude built their family in Surry, NH, Paul served as the town moderator and building inspector. They later moved to Ashuelot, NH, and restored an old Victorian home where their many grandchildren created priceless memories.
Paul enjoyed working for Hedstrom Company in Keene for 27 years lastly serving as their head of shipping and receiving. Prior, he worked as an assembler for Sprague and Carlton Company in Keene. Paul was a self-employed carpenter in retirement, he enjoyed spending his time working on his flower and vegetable gardens, woodworking, and growing large pumpkins. He loved visits with his family and friends, including long road trips, spending time talking, and playing board games.
Paul was an ordained minister, he preached and served in many New England Churches. He served as the President of the Duxbury Free Christian Society for 37 years. Paul’s devotion to sharing God’s love was evident in his words and actions, he started each morning in prayer for those on his heart.
Mr. Haynes is survived by his wife, Gertrude Haynes of Swanzey, NH, and their six children, Nathaniel Haynes and wife, Maureen of Moultonborough NH, Timothy Haynes and wife, Susan of Anson, ME. Miriam A. Moshkowski and husband, Michael of Hurt, VA. Peninnah Thompson and husband, Mark of Shallotte, NC. Anna Stopyro of Barnstead, NH, and Rachel J. Hays and husband, William of Swanzey, NH. He is also survived by his 26 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, other dear family, and friends. Paul is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, David and Philip, two sisters, Martha and Priscilla, and son-in-law, Joseph Stopyro.
