Paul E. Stewart, 79, of Spofford and formerly of Keene, passed away unexpectedly while taking his dogs for a walk on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
He was born on May 15, 1944, to the late Marie H. (Hoffmann) and Anthony J. Stewart in Melrose, MA. He was educated at North Middlesex Regional High School in Townsend, MA. class of 1962. After high school, Paul attended the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, OH.
Paul enlisted into the United States Army Reserves.
On February 20, 1988, Paul exchanged vows with the love of his life, Ronda L. Carson. They were married at the Unitarian Meeting House Church in Warwick, MA with family and friends celebrating them.
Paul was the proud owner and operator of Paul’s Choice in Keene for 23 years until he retired in 2010. Prior, he worked for OK Fairbanks of Keene and Brattleboro, VT. as well as Kulick’s Grocery Store as their butcher.
Paul loved to spend his time golfing, going on hikes, playing poker on his computer, playing cribbage, watching old-time TV shows, and visiting with family and friends around the fire pit. He was also on the Board of Directors for Amazing Grace Animal Sanctuary and a long-time member (54 years) of the Keene Elks Lodge #927. Whenever he had a spare moment, he would work on various projects in and around the house. In his younger years, Paul sang alongside his father for the Granite Statesmen Barbershop Chorus, Nashua, NH. Chapter.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Ronda Stewart of Spofford, their two children, Sherri L. Prouty and husband, Phillip of Spring Hill FL., April L. Frost and husband, Tom of Rindge, NH., and his two fur babies and protectors, Bailee, and Karlee. He is also survived by his six siblings, Ann Mountain of Southwick, MA., Johanne Fitch of Marietta, GA., Anthony Stewart and his wife, Patricia of Oak Island, NC., Joy Brown of Humansville, MO., Stephen Stewart and his wife, Katherine of Warwick, MA., Kathleen Jackson and her husband, Tony of Rye, NH. His seven grandchildren, Jamie Owen and her husband, Ethan, Matthew Prouty and his wife, Mckenna, Andrew Prouty and his fiancé, Amaris, Anthony Brothers, Nathaniel Brothers, Corey Frost, and Stacey Frost. His three great-grandchildren, Avery, Everett, and Oliver Prouty, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Paul is predeceased by his parents, and his five siblings, Lawrence Stewart, John Stewart, Thomas Stewart, Donald Stewart, and William Stewart.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Cheshire Family Funeral Chapel, 44 Maple Ave. Keene, NH. 03431. With a burial to take place in the future. Golf/casual dress attire is suggested. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Amazing Grace Animal Sanctuary, 161 Centre St. Sullivan, NH. 03445.
