Olive (Adey) Dorris

Olive (Adey) Dorris, 99, formerly of Deerfield, NY, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on April 26, 2019 after spending the last several years of her earthly life under the loving care of the staff at Maplewood Nursing Home. She was born in Ovenden, Yorkshire, England on July 24, 1919, daughter to Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Hardaker) Adey. She immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1920 and settled in Utica, NY. She graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1936 and from the Utica School of Commerce in 1937.

Mrs. Dorris worked at Commercial Travelers Insurance Company and retired from the Medical Societies of the Counties of Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Chenango, Oswego and Cayuga in 1987.

On September 19, 1942 she married SSgt. Albert J Dorris at Fort George G Meade, Maryland.

Mrs. Dorris was a member for many years of Trinity Lutheran Church, Utica, NY.

Mrs. Dorris leaves a daughter, Susan (Stephen) Vekasy of Keene, NH, two grandsons, James (Sarah) Vekasy of Pittsford, NY and Matthew (Marissa) Vekasy of Norfolk, MA. She also leaves 4 great-grandchildren, Amelia, Nora, Oliver and Caroline Vekasy. She is pre-deceased by her husband in 2000 and son, Thomas Hartley Dorris in 1994.
Calling Hours will be held on May 4, 2019 from 11AM. to Noon at Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 Maple Ave., Keene, NH followed by a luncheon for all guests from Noon to 1PM and a Memorial Service starting at 1PM. Burial will take place in Utica, NY at a later date.
