Nellie V. (Clow) Phelps

Nellie V. (Clow) Phelps 81, of Morrisville, VT. and formerly of Keene died on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. She passed peacefully after a period of declining health.

Nellie was born the daughter of the late Pauline (Valley) and Edward Clow on May 14, 1933 in Swanzey, NH. She was educated locally and attended Swanzey Schools.

In 1968 she exchanged vows with Ernie Phelps. They were married in a simple service in Keene with close family and friends in attendance. The Phelps’ were married for eleven months before he passed in 1969.

Nellie worked as a production line worker for the Princess Shoe Company in Keene for many years.

For fun Nellie enjoyed painting, carpentry and cooking. She was well known for her spaghetti sauces that she made by hand. Time was spent with her cat “Jackel” She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW in Hyde Park, VT. for many years.

Mrs. Phelps is survived by her two daughters; Linda L. Smith of Johnson, VT. and Carmen J. Phelps of Hardwick, VT. She also leaves her grandchildren; Bill Smith, Scott Smith, Steven Smith, Tonya Burnor, Quentin Phelps, Vesper Bittle and Chip Smith in addition to cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Nellie is predeceased by her daughter, Mona L. Colburn who passed on May 8, 2013. Her siblings; Edwina Bragg who passed in 2011, Albert Clow who passed in 2014 and her grandson Mark Smith passed on December 4, 2012.

In keeping with Nellie’s wishes all services were private with burial in the family lot at Monadnock View Cemetery in Keene. Donations can be made in memory of Nellie V.
